Art Insurance in the UK, by bagpuss on Mar 28, 2017 13:15:25 GMT 1, Coincidentally, I was phoning around this morning for the same thing. Hiscox seemed good but my own home insurer covered the artwork with a modest increase in my monthly fee.

Art Insurance in the UK, by Deleted on Mar 28, 2017 14:13:51 GMT 1, Direct Line Select are expensive but excellent. Art is covered from the minute you purchase it so no need to pay extortionate shipping insurance plus you dont need independent valuations, they take your valuation.
If i recall you need to "name" items above £10k on the policy.

Art Insurance in the UK, by pressman on Mar 28, 2017 14:32:40 GMT 1, Similar to what Kintoreton implies, check the medium print.
My previous home contents policy covered artwork up to a total value of £30k which sounds great and might be plenty for a lot of people. However, it had a cap of 7k per idividual pieces which would be a problem for some. If you have two £10k Banksy pieces which get stolen/destroyed you'd only only be getting back 14k. Make sure you check.

Art Insurance in the UK, by Happy Shopper on Mar 28, 2017 14:43:23 GMT 1, I told my insurance company I had a Banksy print to insure and they said they couldn't insure me at all as it was a high risk item! Alliance and Leicester I think it was.

Art Insurance in the UK, by John The Badgers on Mar 28, 2017 19:13:21 GMT 1, Perhaps a tad late, not sure of the specifics, but the cover I have with Aviva is pretty good with individual items? Perhaps not of the same value, but a few bits here, on renewal I asked, and all covered. Premium pretty good as well?

Art Insurance in the UK, by Octopus UK on Jun 1, 2017 17:13:19 GMT 1, Back in the day I was lucky enough to pick up a couple of early nice signed Invader prints and an unsigned Banksy from the secondary market. Up to last month I had them covered as specified items on my home insurance, for £2k each. I now realise this is unrealistic. I have just got a hiscox quote for an collection worth £22k (I have some other pieces that come in about £200 to £500 each) at £84pa. All they asked for was my name and email - not even where I lived or what security I had. I'd be interested in others opinions as to whether I should buy this insurance - is it good value? Hiscox appears to enjoy a good reputation here.

Art Insurance in the UK, by londonfx on Jun 1, 2017 18:02:40 GMT 1, If you insure your artwork separately through a third party. Do you not still need to inform the insurance company who provides your contents and buildings insurance? Surely they need to know you have expensive artwork in the home?
I changed my insurance yesterday as it happens. I used a broker called A-Plan, who adviced me to go win Axis. Ive itemised a few items of £10k plus. And they were cool about it. They have an unlimited level of cover as well

Art Insurance in the UK, by Octopus UK on Jun 1, 2017 19:21:52 GMT 1, I just called my household insurance and upped the value of Albino from £2k to £6k, the other invader from £2k to £6k and an unsigned Banksy from £3k to £5k. Cost an extra £9 in premium and a £20 admin fee. Hope the prices stabilise, if I have to pay £20 every time the value goes up.

How do people decide the "value" when it comes to insurance - they are only worth what someone will pay for them, right? Prices seem to fluctuate by the day now too.

Great customer service and value.

We work with these guys. a tailormade policy. They insure in chunks, 50k, 100k etc. it is a specific art insurance underwritten by Axa. In my opinion, the best and best value for money in the UK and the service is great.

Art Insurance in the UK, by Octopus UK on Jun 1, 2017 21:24:51 GMT 1, On this board I followed through to a Tajan auction that had just sold a copy of one of my Invaders for about 6000 euros' (estimate of 2,000-2,500 euros'). Not sure if this included the buyer premium so I just took a euro=Stirling exchange rate.

Art Insurance in the UK, by Deleted on Sept 8, 2017 15:26:25 GMT 1, Great thread and very useful I have just dealt with the Brownhill group in the UK and they were fantastic. I cant recommend them enough.
My previous insurers wanted monthly valautions to show the increase in values which i then had supply to the underwriters etc and what a pain in the backside.
Brownhills are very knowledgeable, helpful and professional. They tailored a solution for my collection and it allows increases in value and also allows me to increase my collection size without the need to inform them (upto 25%)
In summary a pleasure to deal with, no headache and i can now sleep at night knowing i have a full and up to date policy

if it's only works by <insert someone else here> you don't need to worry....

Art Insurance in the UK, by waXology on Oct 5, 2017 12:20:33 GMT 1, Can I ask those with Hiscox (Brownhills) what their premium is? I feel like im being taken to the cleaners.
I too went through Brownhills who refereed me to Hiscox. I'm insured for £13k art and £13k watches And my premium is like £430 a year? Does that sound right?

If the policy is just for the jewelery and art, your 1.6% a year of value isn’t too far fetched. I believe you tend to get better deals when it’s an add on policy but I’m in the US so it may differ.

Art Insurance in the UK, by londonfx on Oct 5, 2017 12:38:07 GMT 1, As some people have said in previous message. Brown hills offer a blanket cover for artwork up to £50,000 (which is around £450) and cover up to £100,000 (which is around £1000)
You do not need to give them specific details of the artwork. But it’s good practice if you have the individual info on hand if needed.
They also offer household insurance as well. Without going into to much detail I received a quote for £1200 for the year. For household insurance and artwork insurance for up to £50,000
