New Banksy? Reading Prison , by oooomska on Mar 1, 2021 17:42:38 GMT 1, Legit! And I'd like to see the usual suspects try to angle-grind this off the wall. I reckon that's the real point Banksy is making. Come on then dickheads, try and remove this one.

New Banksy? Reading Prison , by beau on Mar 1, 2021 21:00:00 GMT 1, Here you go ^^^
Since I had no idea what this was all about I did some searching : The Ballad of Reading Gaol is a poem by Oscar Wilde, written in exile in Berneval-le-Grand, after his release from Reading Gaol (/rษ.dษชล.dสeษชl/) on 19 May 1897. Wilde had been incarcerated in Reading after being convicted of gross indecency with other men in 1895 and sentenced to two years' hard labour in prison. During his imprisonment, on Tuesday, 7 July 1896, a hanging took place. Charles Thomas Wooldridge had been a trooper in the Royal Horse Guards. He was convicted of cutting the throat of his wife, Laura Ellen,[1] earlier that year at Clewer, near Windsor. He was aged 30 when executed.[2][3] Wilde wrote the poem in mid-1897 while staying with Robert Ross in Berneval-le-Grand. The poem narrates the execution of Wooldridge; it moves from an objective story-telling to symbolic identification with the prisoners as a whole.[4] No attempt is made to assess the justice of the laws which convicted them, but rather the poem highlights the brutalisation of the punishment that all convicts share. Wilde juxtaposes the executed man and himself with the line "Yet each man kills the thing he loves".[5] Wilde too was separated from his wife and sons. He adopted the proletarian ballad form, and suggested it be published in Reynold's Magazine, "because it circulates widely among the criminal classes โ to which I now belong โ for once I will be read by my peers โ a new experience for me".[6]

This article is quite good and helps potentially unpick the message:

New Banksy? Reading Prison , by Rubberneck on Mar 1, 2021 22:09:55 GMT 1, Thought this write up on where the wall Facebook page is the best Iโve read so far
Location is on the former Reading Gaol prison in the UK, featuring a prisoner escaping on a knotted illustrative pun showing the strength of literature & reference to the type writer, related to the fact the Irish poet & playwright Oscar Wilde, who was imprisioned here between 1895-97. While here he wrote the poem, Ballad of Reading Gaol. Wilde was part of the Aesthetic movement which held that art should stand for beauty alone. Currently the local art community want to turn the site into a community arts hub but developers want to redevelop the site for housing.

(not been there - just going from the photos)

New Banksy? Reading Prison , by Fะฏ on Mar 3, 2021 14:59:01 GMT 1, Good to see H&S regs being followed. Can't have graffiti artists just doing what they want and throwing caution to the wind, can we. maybe he did not fancy breaking his neck being a dad nโ all.
its a prison wall, not a mcdonalds.
