dr.d IN PRISON, by slowmo on Apr 14, 2008 17:13:31 GMT 1, I don't really have a downer on Dr D, just some of her work doesn't appeal to me and if put on forum for debate, I will give my opinion on it. I thought the bus stops were quite amusing.

dr.d IN PRISON, by slowmo on Apr 14, 2008 18:01:30 GMT 1, the breakdown of society, neighbours no longer willing to look out for nieghbours for fear of being stabbed, mob rule and general fear of walking some of these streets, I would say that intimidation and mob rule make parts of London more of a prison than any CCTV camera ever could. pass that Daily Mail would you dear I know, I know, but in all seriousness I was beaten senseless in front of a block of flats in a mugging, loads of witnesses looking out their windows, guess what, they all said they were tooo scared to do anything, they now have cctv cameras there, no more muggings

dr.d IN PRISON, by shaunyboy on Apr 14, 2008 19:31:55 GMT 1, I'm not sure why people on here seem to have a downer on BR D's stuff??!!! I'm loving the stuff round London the HMP stuff is great a real comment on London today Always makes me smile whenever I see one too... Keep it up What we want is more people doing stuff like this around the city IMO
I totally agree G Man. Lets not forget its not only the prevalence of CCTV but also legislation that bans demonstrations around Parliament without permission, the introduction of the ID card and database, the collating of dna from totally innocent people etc etc If we are not too careful HMP London will not be a 1984 vision of the future but a reality. Lets heed the warnings.

dr.d IN PRISON, by s-editions on Apr 14, 2008 21:44:17 GMT 1, Doesn't Dr D's point extend to the "I ain't no number" No ID thing where it costs each of us ยฃ300 to be registered and it is a prisonable offence not to carry an ID? Thats what I call a pointless infringement of civil liberties because the people its designed to catch will have no problems obtaining fake Id that will be almost undetectable. Like a lot of the ID's on here. edit - skipped a few - shauneyboy makes the same point.
Indeed it does. In fact, the catalogue code on the lower right corner of the print reads DRD/NOID.

dr.d IN PRISON, by s-editions on Apr 16, 2008 13:01:57 GMT 1, Funny how people are knocking Dr.D's "H.M.P London" pieces here and then saying how wonderful Banksy's "One Nation Under CCTV" is. Dont see how you can compare a bill poster against this stunning piece of street art which is three stories high and really well executed.
Not that size counts for much at all, but is this big enough for you?

Looks to be about 2-3 stories high, and that's a mother of a large stencil to carry up a ladder. All done in broad daylight without the benefit of scafolding or screens, we are told.

S Editions... my comment is that they are not comparable because they are two different things entirely. I not sure why that seems to have pushed your buttons on this.

Your comment was actually that they are not comparable because the Banksy is a "stunning piece of street art which is three stories high and really well executed". Well, the second dr.d piece is stunning, three stories high and really well executed too Hate it if you want, love it if you want, ignore it if you can, but don't criticise it on the basis of height or execution (or stunningness, which is not a word, but you know what we mean).

cant believe you are still banging on about this.
mmmm lets see one a mildy amusing poster quickly pasted vs a three storey hand painted social commentry for our times that is attracting crowds of people at lunchtime to photograph it.
S Editions pls remember we are all entitled to our opinion whether or not you agree is another matter.

dr.d IN PRISON, by mammal2 on Apr 16, 2008 18:48:24 GMT 1, This Curley character has a good point. S-Editions though I like much of her stuff, and its always cool to see her work around (its not hard) I think that you are milking your cash cow a wee bit too much. What I mean is I think I with your help I have had my fill. Its great on the streets, but surely the poor lass doesn't want you banging her around the forums like a two dollar bit. Let her soak into he Capital. Let people see the work and ask, "who the fuck is that?". Not "wow, another 10ft paste up that I already saw in S-Editions Flickr account." I've seen all of Dr D's work and I ain't been out out of my house for 4 months. Long story involving a vole.

dr.d IN PRISON, by fastrack on Apr 16, 2008 18:56:29 GMT 1, can someone enlighten me as to what is so good about a poster on a side of a building?
That would have taken 10 minutes on photoshop to create.
so basically its graphic design.
so are we going to start lauding people who design adverts for newspapers and call it art. whats the difference?
and Mammal, you ate that vole about 3 months ago, you need to keep up mate.

I have a mate who once bust a nut over a lady boy in a cheap hotel in Bangkok thinking it was a beautiful honey. I saw him that night in the pale of the moonlight on the Kao San. He was all for diversity, but when it comes to it when your ten minutes into some serious duffett hurdling and a sportsman finish you just want good old vanilla and a flake....I really don't know what my point was!

That is in fact a stencil on the side of a building. She goes up, whites out the poster that is there and then sprays her stencil. We are pretty sure Sacchi & Sacchi don't do that.

We don't have a Flickr account, and we have not posted images of the billboards anywhere else before today. If you have indeed seen all of dr.d's work, you must have been looking for it.
And dr.d would not be anybody's idea of a cash cow.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. What you are not entitled to is to spread inaccurate information. This is not some 'quickly pasted' poster - it is a stencil on the side of a building, done in situ. You also complained that it was less than three stories high, and not well executed. Both those observations are palpably untrue.
Criticise our artists on the basis of art and you will not hear a word from us about your opinion. Talk cobblers and you will. The choice is yours.
