Insuring art to send abroad, by manty on May 15, 2008 20:44:37 GMT 1, Ok, you've sold your lovely original Banksy massive canvas to a guy in the states, he has paid you the money and its cleared in the bank.
You decide to send it to him sea freight because of its size, you get it crated, who do you go to for insurance?
and what would you expect to pay % wise ?

Insuring art to send abroad, by Photoxtc on May 15, 2008 21:53:49 GMT 1, Seriously, I would pay the extra cash to have it air-shipped over with one of the major shipping companies, that way it's in the States and with the person in a day or two.. well worth the extra cost and worries of the item being in the hands of shippers for x amount of days...
If it's an original then you will need a quote on the price from a Gallery before any of the shipping companies will insure it for said amount (a major pain in the ass!!!)
Otherwise someone on here may know of an outside insurance company that will cover it...
if you have a rough idea of size I can give you an idea of what it would cost to ship via air frieght... I have had every size imaginable shipped to and from the UK so I'm pretty good with cost on these things...  Although I'm sure you have already checked into the pricing...

I'm happy to have a word with the Hiscox underwriters in the morning for you if it helps. In transit cover is something that is standard on many specialist policies. If you had one of our policies the piece would be insured from when you bought it including whilst waiting for it to arrive, subject to certain criterias

I bought some stuff from a guy in the US and he used these guys for 3rd party insurance...
