Big Faile Purchase, by symonl on Jul 7, 2008 22:37:50 GMT 1, I think the majority would still say £300, is no small sum At least until we become film directors or art forum owners ;D The most I have ever paid for a piece of art is £595, but I am currently saving up for a piece thats over £1,000 and thats pretty scary to me
You must earn that a week in referral here

Big Faile Purchase, by Gentle Mental on Jul 8, 2008 3:36:57 GMT 1, i think the Patricks have reasons for this price upping (don't think they are the evil, greedy sort)....
perhaps it's a natural business move, and the rumours are true... that they'll soon be tuck in some high end gallery and be way way out of reach?

Big Faile Purchase, by snausages on Jul 8, 2008 4:23:10 GMT 1, Faile, moving to some high end gallery and being out of reach? But aren't they already out of reach? I mean how many people here have 200 thousand bucks to burn? Maybe 1 or 2? Maybe none? Laz's prices are already very high for an artist(s) that has only been on the scene for about 2-3 years or so now.
No offense but if I had 1 to 2 hundred thousand dollars to spend I'd be buying a XXXX XXXXXXXX (do your own research) or 2, not a Faile.
I supposedly had a commission set up with Faile for an original in late '07, told me I'm on the list. I waited and waited and now that prices have truly gone stupid fully expect nothing. I'm of course not too surprised and not too bitter. And I won't be patronizing Laz even if they do have anything I can afford, I've moved on and will be spending my 20k on a huge canvas by a different contemporary artist. Still like their work but come on people...

Big Faile Purchase, by theperfecttree on Jul 8, 2008 6:55:25 GMT 1, It's nice to be reminded by so many that I'm not the only "not rich" person on this board. After you see so many big collections and huge purchases/sales you start to think that everyone that's simply interested in this form of art owns a Lotus or is considering selling it to "fund a Parla." More large print runs and a weaker market = cheaper art please.
congrats on the Faile wish it were me but it looks like it found a nice home!

Big Faile Purchase, by Philippe on Jul 8, 2008 7:05:47 GMT 1, No chance of Tate print being well below cost. Anyone that's bought one isn't interested in making a quick buck. Once these arrive and people see the quality I think it will be hard to even get one. What color is the sky in your world? Since when has art ever won over price appreciation when you're talking an editioned piece? Given the fact that it has not sold out, I'll bet my life that you'll see these on ebay sooner than later despite the otherworldly quality.
I can never get enough of your posts, top notch lee.

I own a Lotus and have done for 6 years. I'm certianly not rich and I wouldn't ever dream of selling it to buy art!
I'm a car nerd before an art nerd ;D

Big Faile Purchase, by Pattycakes on Jul 8, 2008 11:52:20 GMT 1, Cheers guys, I am really chuffed, and totally didn't expect to "win" anything in the lottery, so whilst it's a lot of money for me to spend I think it's absolutely worth it - especially since I don't drive and so there are no worries about petrol price hikes!

Think my paypal statement is for around £482. I was lucky to avoid tax, but I guess that would have been 17.5% plus the ridiculous handling fee of ~£8.
Edited the above - I forgot that I had £40 in my paypal account already...doh! Total was £481.12

Big Faile Purchase, by Prescription Art on Jul 8, 2008 12:34:07 GMT 1, I've never paid any duty on a purchase from Faile or Papermonster.. .they mark them as gifts & with a nominal value.
I've never bought an 'original' though, so that might be different.

Big Faile Purchase, by woodsman on Jul 8, 2008 13:49:01 GMT 1, I'm sure it’s posted here some where but how long do we have before payment is due from receipt of invoice? I'm desperately trying to scrabble enough dosh together to pay for the print. So if anybody has found a tenner in the street, I think its mine!

Not sure, though it's probably so at such an odd number.
One thing on this though - did you note the size of it? That's a BA canvas!

Big Faile Purchase, by thesewalls on Jul 9, 2008 8:58:33 GMT 1, "what color is the sky in your world" - top notch indeed dank one. i used to go by 'the headiest', but it looks like lee's got us both beat! well, with art at least...
congrats on the purchase dood, she's a beaut! here she is in the street around the corner from their studio
and a few more blocks away
and cause it's nice
as long as they keep putting up sick sh*t in the streets, i won't argue with their prices. it sucks that everyone and their mom who wants a Faile can't have one, but i feel like they are reasonably priced...expensive yes, and one of the finer things in this life, surely. lets not forget that art is a luxury...like jewelry...you could get your girl that bling bling, or you could go cubicZ style. or get that b*tch some nice but cheap earrings at that random craft fair in the city. sh*t i have ghetto ass black and white computer print outs of Faile Girl II and Happens Everyday on my wall. The prints would be nice, but that ain't happening. so then i went and got the Faile Girl tatted on my leg. i guess all i'm saying is that you can cover your walls (or body) with almost any budget. and yes, i'm starting a Faile Poster Company tomorrow morning, with full rights from the P's.......i kid, i kid.

Big Faile Purchase, by Winter on Jul 9, 2008 9:40:52 GMT 1, Confessions is such a great piece. I genuinely think in time it will be considered one of Faile's classics. For those talking about the increasing cost of Failes you can still pick these up near cost.

Big Faile Purchase, by angryboy on Jul 9, 2008 9:54:46 GMT 1, Just done $2,500 on a Stories of Love - Romance in Brown. I consider that a lot of money. It's a huge print though and I love the image so I shall grin and bear it. Let's just hope the missus likes it. So saying even if she doesn't I won't part with it I'll just wait till house prices collapse and I get to buy a 2 bed place with a spare bedroom to put it, and my PS3 etc., in.

i don't know about all that winter, but i love your optimism. i thoroughly enjoy the image, though to be in contention with the 'classics' takes more than aesthetic strength (not at all trying to put words in your mouth). we'll see how much they use it in the future...releases, shows, and on the streets. like you said, only time will tell. respect.

Big Faile Purchase, by bobbymeachamjr on Jul 10, 2008 0:45:05 GMT 1, Confessions was a formulaic piece that lacks the oomph! of the "classics". The original release was really flat. The edition of 4 from the lottery looks infinitely better and should have been the official release...
