Laz - Outsiders - New York - September 2008, by crazyarsemother on Sept 26, 2008 10:45:10 GMT 1, Looks fantstic - any close ups of the Harrington? (hero) It all feels very mainstream though does'nt it? Take those failes or bast peices out and put them in an 1950s / 1960s American Retro show and we would not bat an eye. Insect's 2d work feels dated - saatchi late 1990s-esq.

Laz - Outsiders - New York - September 2008, by Bram on Sept 26, 2008 13:15:26 GMT 1, What's Banksy upto ?
From Artinfo.com
London Street-Art Scenesters Come to New York
NEW YORK—Artists from the London street-art scene are opening a two-week exhibition at 282 Bowery in New York, reports Gothamist.
The Lazarides Gallery, owned by the agent of renowned street artist Banksy, is responsible for the new show, titled "The Outsiders." The exhibit will showcase the artists' best works across a range of styles. Pieces by the likes of Antony Micallef, JR and Blu, and Jonathan Yeo will be displayed both inside and outside of the space. Works will include Jonathan Yeo’s "porno portrait of the U.S. President," as well as another secret work that, according to the gallery, "will provide a certain famous lady with some much needed funding for her forthcoming presidential campaign."
Lazarides's star client, Banksy, will not contribute to this show. Steve Lazarides explained to the New York Sun: "There's nothing by him in the show at all. He's just planning his own big shows at the moment, so he didn't have time to contribute."

Probably the Ghetto or something similar to Cans.
I really want some new releases from him but it is looking less and less likely.

NEW YORK - A well-known British artist who has made collage portraits of President Bush and Paris Hilton out of porn magazine images is exhibiting the pictures at a gallery in New York. A gallery spokeswoman says Jonathan Yeo's portrait of Hilton was bought by the artist Damien Hirst ahead of Thursday's opening.
She says the Hilton portrait is titled "Paris, 2008," and posters of it will be sold for $20 each at the gallery.
She says Yeo is offering Hilton proceeds from the sale of the posters because she never received any money from the notorious 2004 sex video that starred her and then-boyfriend Rick Salomon.

The Outsiders, New York
GUERRILLA GALLERY UK street art hits the Bowery ANGELA ASHMAN
Rulers of the street-art gallery scene in London, Lazarides—the gallery owned by Steve Lazarides, agent of notorious graffiti artist Banksy—is bringing its British brand of cool to New Yorkers with a month-long pop-up show, titled The Outsiders, New York, at 282 Bowery, formerly a restaurant-supply store. Displaying works inside and outside the space are Paul Insect (whose Lazarides show last summer was entirely bought out by Damien Hirst for $1 million), Jonathan Yeo (who famously made a collage of Bush last year out of clippings of hard-core porn), and art collective Faile, as well as Anthony Micallef, Invader, Mode 2, Miranda Donovan, JR, BAST, David Choe, and Polly Morgan, among others. Making opening day extra special, the artist Zevs will project his latest work on the body of a naked woman. Not even the Vandal Squad could argue with that.

London street-art gallery scenesters are taking over part of Bowery starting tomorrow. The gallery Lazarides (owned by Banksy's agent, of the same name) is coming cross the pond and setting up a pop-up gallery in a former restaurant supply store at 282 Bowery. The show is titled The Outsiders, and the works will be housed both inside and outside of the space. Here's what to expect:
“Lazarides promises to cut to the core of the Big Apple. Antony Micallef will show his huge Times Square piece (illustrated) and Faile, JR and Blu, whose huge graphic murals adorned Tate Modern will show alongside Jonathan Yeo’s porno portrait of the US President. Zevs will perform using his unique liquidated logo on a very different kind of naked canvas. Invader, famous for leaving cubic aliens around the planet, will be revealing his most ambitious psychogeography to date, and another secret work will provide a certain famous lady with some much needed funding for her forthcoming presidential campaign.” That last piece mentioned is currently still being held in customs! And Mr. Lazarides told the NY Sun that the street-art popping up nearby the temporary gallery is not associated with his exhibit, nor is it associated with his star client, Banksy, who won't be involved with the show. Lazarides told the paper, "there's nothing by him in the show at all. He's just planning his own big shows at the moment, so he didn't have time to contribute." Meanwhile, the locals don't want the rich Brits in town! Check out a preview of what's in store on Flickr.

Banksy Sneaking Around Manhattan?
Anonymous guerrilla street artist Banksy's dealer (his art dealer) Steve Lazarides is opening up a pop-up gallery in New York, reports the Sun. The space is on the Bowery, of course, as part of the quest to turn it into doucheland like the rest of downtown. Banksy's work isn't to appear in the exhibit... but is it scheduled to appear in the surrounding streets?
Street art resembling Banksy's has been popping up in Lower Manhattan in the last week: "Mr. Lazarides has denied rumors of Banksy's participation in the show. But over the past week, street art and graffiti, some of it in the style closely associated with Banksy, has emerged on the stretch of Houston between Bowery and Elizabeth Street, suggesting the presence of the elusive prankster.
...Since Sunday, however, graphic images, including posters of Senator Obama dressed as Superman, Warhol-style images of Marilyn Monroe with Monroe's face replaced by that of Britney Spears, Michael Jackson, or Leonard Nimoy, and a Degas dancer on crutches, have emerged on the concrete construction barriers, portable toilets, and pieces of detritus littering Houston Street west of the Bowery. Banksy's work often includes stenciled images of pop-culture icons in appropriated scenarios."

Laz - Outsiders - New York - September 2008, by Philippe on Sept 28, 2008 15:55:46 GMT 1, Check it out bobby he got us in the shot checking out the price list with Josh, what an amazing time that was.
The evening ended up being an insane one for my history books but one of the funnier things I heard and remembered was when I was first talking with Antony and he brought up how large he made the p*nis on the hollywood guy in the Rape in Times Square piece. He said to me he really ought to have more sex before painting so he doesn't end up drawing such large phallic symbols. ;D
The show went really well and the most impressive piece in the whole space was hands down Antony's Christ Head. The Faile sold, which was nice to hear but not quite sure how to be honest and I am really finding Conor Harrington's work more and more impressive, especially now that I was able to see it in person.
