'Not A Penny Off The Pay' show - preview pics, by Rsyok on May 2, 2008 10:13:16 GMT 1, Taking down C215's work opening night is unforgivable. The guy worked hard to create a space for his work painting the surrounding walls. Steal fom work described it as ' a group exhibition' the work should be exhibited till the end off show.

'Not A Penny Off The Pay' show - preview pics, by onemandown72 on May 2, 2008 10:51:00 GMT 1, Once again the straight to the sales desk aspect of last night left me cold. Judging by the attitudes and actions of some of those people last night (barging in, rude, stroppy, impatient, devoid of any appreciation of the show from what I could tell), I think many were laughing all the way to eBay.
Have to agree with you. We were among the first in, and people were going straight up to the payment desk without looking at a single thing, whilst their 'mate' would report back and tell them what to buy. The penny kind of drops when you overhear a bunch of total norberts buying/praising up the 'Paint Bomber' prints, like they're proper lifelong SPQR groupies, then I turn around and see Matt standing about 3 feet from them and they clearly haven't got a clue who he is
Unfortunately, just another example of the pushy/shovey/quick-buck society we seem to live in these days
Just to clarify another point, we bought a C215 piece and took it home on the night. As we live fairly locally we would have been more than happy to pick it up after the show, but we were specifically told, when we pointed out the piece, that if we wanted it, WE had to take off the wall ! This proved a tad difficult so the SFW guys jumped over the desk to help at which point a slightly irate Frenchman asked what we were up to ;D, realised we weren't trying to nick anything, then took it off the wall himself for us. So I do agree that its a show and stuff 'should' only be collected at the end so everyone can enjoy it, but its not always the buyer spoiling things.
IN response to this 1. Nice to see small minded art snobbery at work here. In my mind it's fantastic to see people talk positively about new art, and surely this is more important that knowing the identity of the artist, and yet you talk about a small irate Frenchman who you clearly did not know whose artwork you buy - a case of one rule I think. 2.Taking the art down before the end of the show is unforgivable. I bought one of the Matt small pieces and wouldn't dream of removing before the end of the show, regardless of how nervous I may have been about how easy it is to spill beer on! It is a show on for 11 days, not for a preview night for the lucky ones who go to buy and remove. I came back at the end of the night and was horrified to see most of the C215 gone. you should be ashamed of yourself. For the work not to stay for all to see you should be ashamed of yourself

I dont think it's youreds fault that the piece was taken down as he stated! However i do agree with you on, "who cares if you dont know what the artist looks like!" It's about the Art!

Really happy to catch up with some of the friendliest people about..you know who you all are
Great evening regardless of all the numptees!!

I'll check out the Bristol show anyway, as it looks like there's some great work there by other artists, but boo hiss to the organisers for letting the work be taken away.

'Not A Penny Off The Pay' show - preview pics, by becksaboo on May 2, 2008 12:47:00 GMT 1, I went to this last night and overall I really enjoyed it. Was nice to see cor blimey as he gave me some much needed photography tips.
Artwise- i thought the sweet toof stuff was brill, really stood out but then i like my art to be a bit twisted.
Was a bit disapointed with the matt small stuff in that it was nothing new and just what was at BRP print show.
Overall i was disappointed there was nothing new- the themes have been the same (for me anyway) for the last year.
Was good to see a Denning up close but i thought there was going to be some beejoir stuff- did i miss that???
the queue was a bit silly, i bought nothing as nothing floated my boat but i did hear one guy say 'i don't really know much about this, i just buy it all and sell it on at bonhams' and i don't think he was joking.
the best thing was the work painted up outside IMO.

Touching back story to the C215 stencil. What a nice guy. www.flickr.com/photos/asboluv/2371692761/

Went back for a better look at lunch time and it was great only about 5 people in there. Sadly on the C215 front, there was only 3 left on the wall and one of those sold when I was there, don't know if the buyer was planning to take it. C215 has done some nice work inside and outside the gallery so still worth taking a look.

'Not A Penny Off The Pay' show - preview pics, by clappie on May 2, 2008 14:59:57 GMT 1, People werent ripping down c215's art as soon as they bought it! If you looked at the peices he hadnt named any of them, because he thinks it degrades the art, so when it came to selling them it was getting really complicated and the poor guys behind the desks didnt know what was sold and what wasnt. C215 made the decision himself to take them down as they sold so they didnt get sold twice. Dont blame the people who were buying it.

The organisers should at least number and label the work 'semi professionally' for their slim cut. The passion of C215 is unstoppable he's a man on a mission !

'Not A Penny Off The Pay' show - preview pics, by duke on May 2, 2008 15:40:35 GMT 1, Went to the show last night and thought it was great. was nice to be able to wander around freely, some of the london shows are so small and cramped that you don't get to see everything at length. loved the matt small installations, would loved to have bought one. was really impressed with guy denning, k-guys new work was amazing, he not only printed on a slab of marble there were pices on steel as well. bagged myself a limited edition t shirt, cheap price too. real life lizlam looked good. the keep britain tidy was really thought provoking with the newspaper cut outs of the deaths by guns crime, well done to all, loved the music and the pies!!! what a nice lot .

'Not A Penny Off The Pay' show - preview pics, by bristolboy on May 2, 2008 15:42:44 GMT 1, Noticed this earlier as I was on my way to the frit and veg shop.
Took a slow walk round the show today, too hectic for me last night. Though as I have the SPQR canvas
I was able to stand back and watch the bunfight, my brother got the paint bomber print.
Im just happy that such a show exists on my doorstep, some great pieces of work in and around the gallery. People wind me up everyday just because im at a show I dont expect that to change, the Nick Walker queue/online debacle taught me that, last night just reaffirmed it.
Thanks to steal from work, I will be in again and again, and I look foreward to the next show.

It is a show on for 11 days, not for a preview night for the lucky ones who go to buy and remove. I came back at the end of the night and was horrified to see most of the C215 gone. you should be ashamed of yourself. Please get off your high horse and read my post properly. 'Irate Frenchman' is supposed to be ironic-of course I bloody well knew who he was, hence the 'big grin smiley' !!! If Chris is actually taking HIS OWN art off the wall to give to us, chuffed to bits that we love it, full of gratitude that we're buying it, then why the hell should I be ashamed-its hardly my fault. As I said, read my post again-I'm local, live about 20mins away from the venue, had no problem whatsoever with leaving it on the wall for all to see, but it was not my choice.
As for your snobbery comment, you really couldn't be more wrong-the people I was standing next to weren't talking 'positively about the art' as you put it, they were pretty much looking for a quick return as they are obviously looking for the next Banksy, and to see the artist standing beside them, and for them to not know/acknowledge/say thanks just sums up how things are at the moment. As for me-I have a few bits and pieces by various people, and I'll always support them and say thanks if I see any of them in person.
Buy it because you like it-there is no other reason than that for me.

'Not A Penny Off The Pay' show - preview pics, by newmang on May 2, 2008 16:16:58 GMT 1, Are they taking other artists work dawn as it sells? Or was it just c215, i.e. will there be anything left to look at tomorrow when I get there?
Didn't look like anything else had been taken down to me, although I didn't see the Pure Evil butterfly from the preview pics, either last night or today, so maybe some things went before the show.

No red dot on the Ian Curtis earlier today, so I guess still available. I think the price was ยฃ1750
