That Mau Mau is cheap compared to ยฃ3750 for the Goldie edition I thought. Jef your pieces looked great. Loved the boots.

Loved China Mike's "Charlie Don't Surf" was very tempted at ยฃ800 - some other bargains to be had down there. Hush pieces very, very good too.

This one was ยฃ950 but its VERY big Plus you can find some cheaper pieces by James in the print rack for between ยฃ70-ยฃ150 Cheers Silky, The hours in the freezing studio with a hot water bottle strapped to my front is starting to pay off. I hoped you like the Bull painting too? The China Mike was amazing as was so much. I loved Dora's screens and Motorboys's prints. But there was just so much there that was amazing. In fact all my fellow Red Propeller crowd did themselves proud. The Dennings in the print browser are ace. Cheers to Jonno, Lucie, Dom, Steve and especially Sarah for all their help whilst down there. I hope everyone who goes enjoys it as much as I did.
loving your work m8. best of the show from the pictures ive seen
been thinking for a while if to buy 1.!

but how can ACE get away with basically stealing from bast? imo whats wrong with the scene, not one ounce of originallity, and doesnt even try to disguise it

Cheers Greame,
I think its an interesting point that you have rasied with regards to the the recycling of imagery and subject matter. I was always taught that you do it first or you do it better. But please bare in mind that we all absorb visual imagery and inevitably that comes out in work. We are also exposed to work of artists at a really early point in their development, this a new phenominium driven by the internet.
I think influence of one artist to another is inevitable and healthy too, to a degree, but it must be approached intelligently. This show has started to see a cross over into other displines, painting, photography, scullpture and illustration which I believe will be the theme for 2009 / 2010. IMO as displines transcend we shall see an exciting, creative boost to work that will ineviatably become more and more mainstream. Anyway, thanks again.

Very well put James and agree with you on all points there. There seems to be a number of illustrators (myself included) who cross over into the whole 'Urban Art' thing or whatever. The movement into sculpture work is very exciting! Mutate Britain smashed it because of 3d pieces.
By the way James, must say that I too really liked the works you had on show at 12 days.

Cool thanks Andy - will check your work out.
I think many artists now are quite multi disciplined anyway with the advancement of materials, technology and such can explore the boundaries of differing processes at relative speed. I have been invited to upfest this year which is a great opportunity for a more studio based painter like myself to be challenged by faster street based processes and push my own limitations. Very exciting.
Going back to Graeme's orginal point I personally am dissappointed that, with so much imagery available to exploit, how narrow some artist's approaches are. Its like all the sculpture students at my college being influenced by organic materials when in my mind we have never been so saturated by such a wonderful and eclectic range of man made visual 'treats'. Few of the scenes new artists 'celebrate', rather are keen to continue to illustrate the world's short comings. I hope this will be a trend of 2009. Neo-celebratorism. I find the work that is more illustrative and innovative is now becoming a refreshing break from the visual pun stuff. But there is of course room for everyone and we are all turned on by different things.
I did not go to Mutate Britain but I wish I had - sounds interesting.

Yes, I shouldn't have used the term 'Urban Art'. There was lots of contemporary work of different disciplines shown at both 12 days and Mutate Britain, which was exciting to see alongside work of Street Artists etc.
