12 Days of Xmas - ONLINE SALES (finally!), by Deleted on Jan 24, 2009 14:43:33 GMT 1, there are many artists around who get little recognition the spqr canvasses above seem to be very similar to the following by k-guy from late 2007/early 2008 not just showing these because i am a k-guy fan as i have some of matt's work also and that i feel that k-guy's are better IMO but getting bored of blatant copycat work getting more praise and exposure than others. but never mind - just a rant who do you think is better??
I mentioned this point yesterday, nice photo of K-GUY's work

12 Days of Xmas - ONLINE SALES (finally!), by duke on Jan 24, 2009 17:00:23 GMT 1, I can't help but agree . I have an original K-Guy 'Keep Britain Tidy' canvas from early last year. Throwing a gun/knife in a bin is to 'keep Britain tidy', I understand that message and think it is very apt and thought provoking. I don't understand how throwing money in a bin is keeping Britain tidy? The SPQR's are a rip off and they completely miss the point in my view. Keep it original!

12 Days of Xmas - ONLINE SALES (finally!), by pointblank on Jan 24, 2009 17:16:34 GMT 1, I think both are good but kguys works very well as it was on the street & the message is really clear, keeping britain tidy guns off the street, i think they were sprayed in quite a few places as well so a nice consistent message. Spqrs i agree with the points above about the message but must admit it looks pretty good although the message about the money in the bin is confusing a little ( throwing money away?) but it looks pretty good, i would maybe have used mixed media for the note instead of spraying it to enhance the point a little although if he wants to send me one i wont complain. To be fair to both the original image is quite iconic and many artists have used it before, mines below, i should add mine was a rough idea that turned into one canvas & poked fun at myself, i was unaware f spqrs piece when i did it so its not aimed ant anything in paticular, in fact the final one had a mini scan of some of my old work..

i'm not a fan of these SPQR or K-Guy pieces. saying that "i don't understand how this is keeping Britan tidy" is missing the point. The SPQR pieces have nothing to do with keeping Britan tidy, its about the current economic situation(and in fairness to SPQR weren't they only ยฃ50 ?). Artists take inspiration from others all the time. its ok as long as it isnt literally just copying. for instance
sure i could find many more if i could be bothered.

12 Days of Xmas - ONLINE SALES (finally!), by duke on Jan 24, 2009 18:06:48 GMT 1, the reason why it misses the point as the image itself in its original form is about keeping Britain tidy, using the same image throwing money away doesn't compute. If the spqr one is not about keeping Britain tidy, then use another illustration rather than an iconic self explanatory one.'There's room for everyone but there's a fine line between 'in the style of' and a direct copy, especially in the short time frame of the two concepts.

12 Days of Xmas - ONLINE SALES (finally!), by Deleted on Jan 24, 2009 18:20:25 GMT 1, both SPQR and K Guy exhibited at the first 12 days show in the same room, this is where K guys keep britan tidy piece was hung. Rather than a copy, its more of a nod too K guy and all the shit thats happened financially in the last 12 months. it seems to have computed with the 20 or so people who bought the canvas.
