Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by wizzy on Jun 17, 2009 1:46:52 GMT 1, love this comment: "Two receptions were held on Friday to which collectors were invited; one for the rich and another for the less rich. Unfortunately the rich were only interested in the cheaper works, which didn't leave much for the poorer collectors."
Maybe the rich bought the cheaper works just to put the remaining more expensive works out of the reach of the poor people? thus leaving the rest for themselves to peruse over grapes and pink champagne whilst noshing on a Quayles egg?.

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by Deleted on Jun 17, 2009 9:15:12 GMT 1, I booked the Washington Hotel, just found out you can probably walk from there to the exhibition.. (checked google maps: a 6 min. walk!)
paid 120 gbp for two nights in a twin room for me and a friend.. so 30 gbp per night seems fair to me.. even traditional English breakfast is included but I think I might skip that..

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by graeme501 on Jun 18, 2009 0:25:24 GMT 1, thats just me back from the show, and i have to say, it was fantastic
think we spent about 4 hours walking around the museum, it has a really good atmosphere going on, there is an unbelievable mix of people attending, was surprised at how many 70+ year olds there was, so it really is introducing his work to a totally new audience
the layout, organisation, humour, everything was spot on, the studio was really interesting mix of sketches, notes and stencils, and was really nice to see a different side to the finished article that we are used to, the riot police skipping with flowers was probably my favourite, although the 'no ball games' really impressed me, it stuck out for some reason and i think the execution was among the best there, aswell as the brick wall, which to my surprise, is really made of brick, i think the best idea of the show was to mix other stuff amongst the permanent artworks, and that became a good old treasure hunt
the main thing that stood out for me was the overall atmosphere, lots of chatting, laughing, discussing about the art, people walking upto strangers and saying 'what you think of this?' or 'have you seen this hidden one yet?' - it really is the opposite of what more traditional museums are usually like, this shows that there is a different way to exhibit art, and it really is a much more enjoyable and sociable experience, and hopefully will be the start of many more to come

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by baileymontana on Jun 18, 2009 21:57:57 GMT 1, Went to Bristol today. Took day of work, left early and sun shining then got a puncture! Got there eventually after 5 hours. Was worth the hassle. Highly recommended.
What you see online is no way as good as seeing it in real life. The Pet Store is really amazing. I'd never notice the hatching eggs are scrambled online.
The mixture of people there gives it a really good energy. I wondered how it would feel to see Banksy in an official place but it worked well. Especially upstairs where his work is alongside other artists who were obviously part of the establishment. You get the feeling they'd be disappointed Banksy had his work alongside theirs....which makes it all the better.
The "Peaches Aid" and other photos from Africa really prove that Banksy wants to hit up the whole world....next stop for him has got to be Afghanistan.
All in all an excellent day out.
