New series of drawings - sales + 2 new ones, by Oliver Winconek on Apr 20, 2009 10:21:39 GMT 1, Just an edit to the original thread, just wanted to say thanks to everone has PM'd, commented or enquired about the new pieces, it's been great to get such positive feedback. 4 of the original 5 drawings have now sold and I have just added another two onto the OPUS site -
Pound Galaxy
Bargain booze
A few people have asked if I would be keen to do a portrait of their business as a result of this, with regards to any commissions, please direct them to OPUS Underground directly and I will see what I can do
Thanks again, Oliver
Original thread -
Hi everyone, don't normally go in for a lot of self pimpage but after I did the series of 5 drawings that sold out at Castle Arts I have had loads of emails from people asking when I would do more, I haven't been able to reply to everyone i'm afraid but I have just given 5 more to OPUS Underground who will be putting them on their site at some point today -
'Cafe'
'Sunfood'
News + Booze
Amusements
Newsagents
All pieces are 21 x 17.5 cm. Marker, Gouache and spray paint on Cardboard. The coloured part in each one is stencilled spray paint and they are all one-offs.
Thanks, Oliver

New series of drawings - sales + 2 new ones, by spirit on Apr 20, 2009 10:34:51 GMT 1, I really like these - would make great set of small prints as I think they work best as a group. Any chance of that?

Any chance of uploading some pics of the other ones you did for castle arts?

No plans for any prints as yet, however when I had all the pieces side by side on my desk I did like the look of them, made me think it would be cool to do a long landscape, hand finished print of a high st/group of shops etc I must admit that they do work better as a group and of the ones that sold in Canterbury, one person bought one, 2 people bought 2 so i guess it does make more sense to hang a few at once

New series of drawings - sales + 2 new ones, by spirit on Apr 20, 2009 10:45:01 GMT 1, I reckon if you did an edition of 50, set of 5 prints, each print about 12" by 10" for about £100 a set - you'd be onto a winner...

It may be something I do in the future, who knows, to be honest I'm not very keen to flood the market with prints at the moment, I appreciate that it makes things more accesible to people but I don't like to do prints unless I can ensure that there is a decent level of hand finishing to them.

Thanks, with the new set I really put a lot of effort in to them to ensure the quality was higher + I've also made them £50 cheaper per piece to reflect the current market

fair enough - maybe a smaller edition with the black and sepia printed and the colour work done by hand then? Up to you of course.... like I said, just think they work really well as a group and it's unlikely they'll end up that way if sold individually. Whatever you decide to do, thanks for posting these, very refreshing.

New series of drawings - sales + 2 new ones, by Agent Provocateur on Apr 20, 2009 12:22:01 GMT 1, 'Cafe'
I just saw the thread this morning and had to check with Oliver as I recognised 'Al's Cafe'. Turns out it's my local gourmet eatery in London Bridge!
I've been frequenting it for 'round 4 years and always say hello to the smiling Al whenever we bump into each other.
My favourite's the derelict building from the first series, really atmospheric.
Quality work Oliver

On Castle Arts? Thats down to the gallery to be honest, we have spoke about it before, with regards to POA all my prices are fixed by myself and the gallery and are not altered depending on the buyer unlike some galleries, I don't have any control over the work being displayed as POA but I'm always happy to give a price if anyone asks or is interested

Thats exactly the one, I saw it and just loved the idea of somewhere like that that obviously knows it market, taps into the whole binge drinking idea. Places like that fascinate me, also it is looking at the slightly darker, grittier, sometimes seedy side of life which is a theme that suns through all of these drawings
