Oliver Winconek, UPFEST + New work, by skelly on Jun 3, 2009 2:01:55 GMT 1, Thats really nice! Are you up for portrait commissions? I just think you could get a good bit of interest in that department. Well done! ;D Thanks for that SILKY, to be honest, I tend not to do commissions, as it is I turn down at least one a month as I usually find them a bit limiting (a lot of people just want a remix of an old painting) All the models I work with are people I know and love (or me) so I guess thats what interests me when I am painting them as a subject, it can be hard to get someones personality accross on canvas when you hardly know them. Although never say never
I think that is the attitude to have when it comes to realism or portraiture, keep up the work.. that self portrait is pretty interesting

Thank you, I do find it tough turning down commissions, especially in the current climate! However for me it's just not something I feel I can take on at this very moment, especially painting a complete stranger. Just not sure how successful it would be as a painting devoid of any emotional attachment

Oliver Winconek, UPFEST + New work, by Oliver Winconek on Jun 10, 2009 16:22:53 GMT 1, Thanks to those who came up for a chat at UPFEST last weekend, was great to meet so many of you and finally put faces to names. Here is the piece I created on Saturday -
Acrylic and Spraypaint on wood Approx 6 x 4ft
I have also just created a new piece for Urban Angel -
Chris Acrylic and Spray paint on found steel 31 x 87 cm approx
Will be available on their site soon.
On a seperate note, I am working on a whole new body of work based on the portrait theme, this will be shown later in the year as a solo show. I am focusing on people I know, love, meet. Family, friends, associates. Really trying to get under the skin of people and reveal elements of their personality through painting. I'm keen to distance myself from the traditional, posed style of portrait painting so will be looking for different ways to present the work etc and also photographing people without them knowing
Venue, time and date to be confirmed

Oliver Winconek, UPFEST + New work, by Mish Mash on Jun 10, 2009 21:03:20 GMT 1, Great looking stuff. Gutted we couldn't get back to see the the finished piece in the garage on the Sunday. Once again the wife apologizes if she came over a bit 'star struck' on meeting you but yours was the best piece at Upfest for her.

Not at all, it was very sweet. I take it as such a huge compliment when someone likes what I do. Was great to meet you guys, shame I couldn't get to the Grain Barge with you, ironically that was where I should have painted if it wasn't for the bad weather!

Thanks Coach, glad you liked it. Shame things were so hectic, I had planned to make the piece even bigger and better but wasn't to be.
Solo show will definitely be in London towards the end of the year, in the shoreditch area

Cheers Silky, it's something I've been privately working on for a while and now feel happy enough with it to show the work. It's kind of a mix between how I used to paint before I started with stencils and the work I have been doing recently.
For me the surface is the key and I love the way the metal/wood etc shows through the paint in places. Really looking forward to doing a big cohesive body of work to exhibit, can't wait for people to see them in the flesh
