Prescription Art - Outside In - October 30th, by Prescription Art on Sept 9, 2008 18:10:09 GMT 1, I think I maybe posted this in the wrong part of the forum.... i'll start the thread again here instead.
October 31st to November 6th will see Prescription Art's first show... at the Truman Brewery off Brick Lane. It's going to be amazing. Opening night is October 30th.
I'm absolutely thrilled with the line-up of artists who are taking part, which I hope showcases the breadth of talent & styles hitting walls all across Europe & America.
Dain (US) L'Atlas (Fr) Mighty Monkey (UK) Deuce Seven (US) Damon Ginandes (US) Dscreet (UK) Bortusk Leer (UK) Case (Ger) Shuby (UK) Galo (It) Dibo (Sp) Rowdy (UK) Zeus (UK) Shaka & Nosbe (Fr) Bert Industries (UK) Cake (US) Ego Leonard (NL) Freek Van Haagen (NL) Franck Duval (Fr) Broken Crow (US)
Some of the artists may not be familiar to you, so i'll attempt to introduce their work between now & October. Until then, here's the flyer.
See you there.

Prescription Art - Outside In - October 30th, by Prescription Art on Sept 9, 2008 18:21:45 GMT 1, INTRODUCING: FRANCK DUVAL (FKDL)
Parisian Franck Duval's figures are instantly recognisable... dancing silhouettes often comprised of collages from old magazines & papers. Along with Paris & Barcelona, his work is frequently found on the streets of Brooklyn - when not hanging in French galleries.

Prescription Art - Outside In - October 30th, by Prescription Art on Sept 12, 2008 10:53:34 GMT 1, INTRODUCING: L'ATLAS
'Tarmac Calligrapher' L'Atlas is one of the most distinctive and important graffiti artists in Europe. Though living in France, his style was developed learning calligraphy in Morocco, Cairo and Syria, which has given his work a uniquely Arabic appearance.
He's a master of the line, and a wizard with gaffer tape.. used to mark out compasses and labyrinths on the pavement, as well as unmissable billboard sized tags & slogans.
L'Atlas has exhibited widely throughout Europe, including many solo shows... and recently had a piece auctioned at Phillips de Pury. I'm so excited to be bringing his work to the UK, and i'm certain you're going to be as excited once you see it.
I am delighted to be able to offer some L'Atlas canvases in advance of the show. You can see them for now on my flickr site so email if you're interested. They'll be on the site later today, with prices from £1200.

definately a hand finished screenprint would complement this style and we could all have one! Great work though, his site is very nice too

Prescription Art - Outside In - October 30th, by Prescription Art on Sept 12, 2008 15:19:05 GMT 1, Thanks Silky & Mike.. I appreciate your thoughts.
I don't have any plans for a print right now, but i'm definitely hoping to sort something out in the future.
I realise the canvases might seem a little pricey, but I think they're very good value. He's a pretty big deal in France... you can see the crowds he pulled at his last solo show in Paris:
Cheers!

Prescription Art - Outside In - October 30th, by Jef Aerosol on Sept 15, 2008 16:09:05 GMT 1, Franck (who usually signs his works FKDL) and L'Atlas are two friends of mine. They are great artists and extremely friendly blokes. Don't miss them ! They have both released books that can be found on the web or in good French bookshops ! Check them out... I saw Franck during the week-end at the Fête de l'Huma where we had a lovely time pasting, painting and sipping liquor ! At the opening of the show and during the live performances, there were : FKDL, Miss Tic, Paella, VLP, Artiste Ouvrier, Mimi the Clown, Yz, Mosko et associés, Speedy Graphito, Scandal, Psykoz, Jérôme Mesnager, etc... And at the show, there were also works by Blek, Faucheur, Raymond Hains, Ernest Pignon-Ernest, Villeglé, Tapies, Nemo, Klasen, Dubuffet, Alechinski, etc... A beautiful exhibition ! Franck told me about that show with Prescription Art and sounded quite enthusiastic ! So, good luck to you at Prescription for that first show ! cheers Jef

expensive ? I really don't think so ! If you compare his prices to his growing fame here, it's really good deal...

Prescription Art - Outside In - October 30th, by Prescription Art on Sept 15, 2008 16:13:42 GMT 1, Thanks Jef.
I think Franck might be in London soon so you may see some of his work about...
There are so many great street artists in France who are totally unknown on this side of La Manche... I have several others in mind for my next show!

Prescription Art - Outside In - October 30th, by Prescription Art on Sept 22, 2008 14:49:01 GMT 1, INTRODUCING: DSCREET
Under the dark yews which shade them, The owls are perched in rows, Like so many strange gods, Darting their red eyes. They meditate.
Without budging they will remain Till that melancholy hour When, pushing back the slanting sun, Darkness will take up its abode.
Their attitude teaches the wise That in this world one must fear Movement and commotion;
Man, enraptured by a passing shadow, Forever bears the punishment Of having tried to change his place.

Prescription Art - Outside In - October 30th, by Prescription Art on Oct 1, 2008 15:19:22 GMT 1, INTRODUCING: CAKE
The work of CAKE, real name Jennifer, has been unavoidable recently in her home town of Brooklyn. An army of flickr photographers have been recording sitings of her fragile portraits, often revealing the body's inner workings through transparent flesh.
Some pieces are also now available from Ad Hoc Art, but i'm glad to be showing her work for the first time outside New York.

Prescription Art - Outside In - October 30th, by Prescription Art on Oct 2, 2008 11:31:53 GMT 1, INTRODUCING: SHAKA & NOSBE
More hot talent from France, Shaka & Nosbe make up the PPA crew - standing depending on their mood for "Small Painting between Friends", "No Prison for Artists", "Buddies full of Alcohol" or "Partisans of the Armed Proletariat".
Shaka's figures are fragmented with vivid strips of colour... and often conceal other elements of the subject's psyche, while Nosbe's tribal patterns are influenced by time living in Tahiti. They paint big.

Prescription Art - Outside In - October 30th, by Prescription Art on Oct 3, 2008 15:25:48 GMT 1, INTRODUCING: BERT INDUSTRIES
Described by Dazed and Confused as "A surreal mix of the mirth of Monty Python with the Macabre of Marylin Manson", Bert was born on New Year's Eve 1978 in the winter of discontent. A year when gravediggers went on strike and coffins were left unburied for several weeks. The daughter of a dentist with a fascination with guns and killing animals, and a criminologist mother with a love of serial killers.
At Central St Martins Bert's work focused on the effects of trauma and explored creating a space for the expression of pain. It led to the creation of a subversive commercial art collection,'Bert Industries', a circus of horror and art.
The work takes the form of limited edition collections of hand crafted articles or prints, taking its inspiration from anatomy, hospitals, deformity, rituals, curiosity shops, the beauty of horror and a childlike reinterpretation of pain and trauma... all revealing and reveling in a dark sense of humour.

Prescription Art - Outside In - October 30th, by Prescription Art on Oct 6, 2008 14:07:36 GMT 1, I wish I was able to get some work by the incredible Elbow-Toe for this show, but it wasn't to be. He has, however, just completed a new collaged portrait of Cake, whose work you will be able to see. I am nuts about these collages.
