The Best Film Ever, by gilsteph on May 18, 2008 17:53:19 GMT 1, Is it "the lives of others" about the German Stasi? Brilliant film. Thought Pan Labyrinth was a cert for the best foreign oscar until I saw it.

My personal favourite is "Jeff wode is feeling better and is ready to start tossing his orb about. Look at him look at Jeff wode, his head must weigh 50 pounds on its own. Imagine the size of his balls, imagine getting into a fight! with the f**ker!
Ha ha! Nice one. Yes forgot that one. One of the best lines in the film. There are so many though it's easy to forget a lot of them.
How about when 'I's in the bog and he reads the grafiiti "I f*ck arses" and then he says in his head "I f*ck arses? Who f*cks arses, maybe he f*cks arses. We're in terrible danger!"

What did you (and the others who put this is england) actually like about the film? What made it a good film?
ok mike, this wont sound as the smartest thing ever, but the thing i've liked the most about that movie is the slang and how they speak english. i looooved it. then, the movie itself was really interesting to me as a portrait of some kind of england i had a foggy (does this word make sens? hope you'll understand what i mean) idea of. it jsut gave me more images of it.
plus the soundtrack is cool and the kids act really good imo.
didnt you enjoy that movie?
and please, dont tell me you're one of those on the 21 grams side, otherwise, guys we have a duel! this forum is too small for both of us

No mate, didn't enjoy this is england at all, I put a post on the first page of the thread about it I understand you liking the areas you did, but as an actual film I think it's pretty poor. The soundtrack is pretty good, apart from some of the songs came after the time the film was set... but that's nothing majorly unusual.
I thought 21 grams was very good, not one of the best films ever, but it was very good all the same.

Shane M is a legend and a visionary. Dead Mans Shoes pretty much blew my mind. The sound track was beautiful as im a massive Smog fan. TIE was a representation of Shanes damaged past. Its pretty much autobiographical. Its a balanced social commentary of what it was like to be around such idiots in the 80's. One of my best friends knew Shane well, before he started making film, but he was able to pull himself out of such negative elements within the midlands through writing. Its simply superbly written and directed. Meadows is one of our greats. Thomas Turgoose is amazing in the film for such a young kid. Its got SKA and punk and just expresses so perfectly the tumultuous times of skin head Britain. Its a great film as its honest, emotional never follows the pack and is utterly relevant. Cinema is about emotion and this film is mostly amazing. A diamond in the rough of utter shite that is often pumped out by the Hollywood Studios.

I agree it's well written and acted, but as a film it's massively lacking. No pacing or flow to it. It meanders aimlessly along then thinks lets tie things up now. Like I said before it could have been a 30 minute TV programme episode and not miss anything out.
I loved Dead Man's shoes and was looking forward to this more than most films. I was massively disappointed with it... it's average at best, to have it on a best films ever list is baffling

I'd like to add Control to my list ;D[/quote]
nooo mike! no! i found it REALLY REALLY poor. for how much i love joy division, me loving a movie about curtis &co should have been just the right consequence, but i found control sooo bad! slow and really not that interesting. i mean, just try to see it as a movie and dont thing that it's about joy division, it would be the worst movie ever. then, when we all think that those are joydivision, we have to love it someway, but come on, that's a really boring one!
here we are

You're right it is endless, best script of any film I reckon - but I think my fav has to be "We've come on holiday by mistake".

The Best Film Ever, by angel41 on May 18, 2008 19:22:25 GMT 1, Yeah, Dead Mans Shoes was a very hard act to follow, although there are elements of This is England I like the, ending is a bit of a none entity. Dead Mans Shoes has everything, humour raw emotion and an ending that is probably up there with Taxi Driver in its impact.

etched โข I will take that interpolation ....We can stop clutching the pearls now !!
tullyart โข yes this peice is still available - will take a reasonble offer ?
reg โข Would love to know what comes first though, the canvas or the idea. He could have waited years for a canvas like this to appear.
reg โข Think you're joining too many dots tbh. More likely a stoneage man using 21st century methods to put back the damage done by the modern custodians of the planet.
Jeezuz Jones Snr โข I created a thread called 'Art market current prices'? Can anyone see it? I can only see it when logged in. Silky deleted it?
reg โข Oh deary deary me. This poor landlord really doesn't know what they're doing do they? That frame has already compromised the image, I feel for them, in a way because everything about this has been hamfisted and delayed.
reg โข Took a long time imo. Should've been fenced off on Monday, still no perspex over the main image. Idiot landlord.
arttrooper โข Looking for older Faile prints anyone selling at good prices
