But Im going to get a new PC next month so may go and see what all the fuss is about with the Mac. I Work in IT and you dont get many Macs in the Buisiness place so Ive always stuck to what I know

Come away from 'normal' business and start looking at the design/print/photographic, film & music business and you'll find it's the other way round nearly 100% Mac.

You might as well look at www.apple.com/uk then go to store. If you buy from, say, pc world, they sometimes have old stock and you can get a newer faster model for the same price direct from apple, also on some models an amount of customising can be done.
For most people an iMac will be fine (bear in mind the price is for all in one, screen & computer) if you want tons of power and are going to be using it a lot, particularly for full time graphics pounding go for a Mac Pro.
I've worked with high end macs for over 8 years now, and one thing I've experienced is that the quality is undeniable, most machines I've worked with have had serious professional pounding for about 16 hours a day and they've never broken down or failed at all. My current machine will be 4 years old in October (was brand new G5 top of the range model at the time) but it's still very able and going strong after being used everyday for business and family use for the evening too.

gentรacardi on Apr 21, 2007 22:42:46 GMT 1, I've had a PowerBook G4 for 2 years now, never had a single problem. Also had an iMac (the older one with the dome-shaped base) for 4 years, also never given me any trouble. They're durable as heck!
Blue screen of death, be damned!! ;D

Make sure you enable the wepkey or mac address filtering, otherwise your neighbors can share your connection. If you need help on a PC PM me.

iChat is ok for actual video/telephone chat (like skype)....
when it comes to instant messaging, personally I use adium (www.adiumx.com) as it allows you to use AIM, MSN, Jabber, Yahoo all in one window....

Mac or PC?, by scavos on Oct 17, 2007 0:15:49 GMT 1, I've a Dell pc and i-book. pc is a heap of shite. Mac is faultless except when they both let me down for the latest Choe print. Grrrrrr. [Still smarting!] Apple have got it all so right all the way down to the styling and packaging. When the Dell (which is ok to be fair, but still a heap of shite by comparison) meets its maker, I'll be replacing it with a mac. Hassle free computing which lends itself to music, photos, vids, art, graphics etc. Go team apple!
[can I have my fiver now mr mac?] ;D

I've been told by many a macanista that the particular model imac I have was a bad design and build etc. That said when the warranty runs out and its time to replace, what if I end up with another bad design should I carry on with mac.
