Banksy Radar Rat • Dirty Funker 12", by peas on May 23, 2021 23:01:38 GMT 1,
£5,000 for images reproduced from internet sourced jpegs without any involvement or approval from the artist is INSANE. Same discussion as so many times before: Not officially authorized does not mean fake! No-one knows - except for B, DJ DM, and their crews of course
To say 'no-one knows' is not true.
Pest Control confirmed what I wrote a number of years ago.

What did they exactly say? That they are completely unauthorised and nothing at all to do with Banksy.

Interesting, I‘ve only heard so far they confirm it‘s unauthorized but do neither officially confirm nor deny a potential involvement of Banksy... So, in that case, there would still be room for speculations for some kind of collaboration.

Unauthorised means exactly that...no involvement.

Banksy Radar Rat • Dirty Funker 12", by met on May 24, 2021 5:15:13 GMT 1, It’s like pissing in the wind....
In these situations, it can be difficult to assess whether an interlocutor is communicating in good faith:
1. They might just be blinkered by wishful thinking, confirmation bias, and/or a vested interest — desperately wanting the item(s) they own to have some official connection to Banksy. These are ignorant or foolish but nevertheless innocent actors on the forum.
2. Alternatively, they might already know or be quite certain about the unauthorised status of the record covers, but are cynically attempting to muddy the waters, subvert the truth, and create false hope in the minds of others — all with a view to protecting their vested interest. These are bad actors on the forum. I sense a fair number of them here, who are probably agreeable in conversation. And all-too-wiling to rationalise their dishonesty.
__________
Leaving aside earlier confirmations by Pest Control Office in writing*** with respect to these releases by chancers (who are also misleading people into believing DJDM = Danger Mouse), my gripe with the above innocent actors is that they're not using their brains.
Enthusiasts should be familiar with Banksy's modus operandi:
If any members are confused, they need only look at the official cover art Banksy designed for bands and labels — like One Cut, Capoeira Twins, Monk & Canatella, We Love You... So Love Us, Badmeaningood, Blak Twang, Röyksopp, and Blur. Moreover, the chronology of when he agreed to take on these commercial jobs is key: 1998–2003. Especially considering where he was as an artist at the time, career-wise and status-wise.
Consider as well the specific imagery whose unauthorised use we're talking about: Kate, Laugh Now, Radar Rat, Happy Choppers, Queen Vic, Monkey Queen, Grannies, Flag... — all previously released by Pictures On Walls as official limited edition prints.
Members can then ask themselves the following:
Would it really have been Banksy's style, let alone in his reputational interest, to allow those old images to be rehashed years later and slapped onto random album covers? For what benefit?
__________
On a separate note, collectors of albums that feature images stolen from Banksy (someone they presumably hold in respect) may wish to consider whether they're being consistent in their principles.
During the Gross Domestic Product event, most forum members who voiced opinions appeared to side with the artist in his dispute against Full Colour Black.
It was the obvious and rightful stance for us to take.
Fellow members, I would now submit that this position also seems irreconcilable with owning records that were issued by equally-egregious thieves of Banksy's intellectual property.

Those 3 decks were unquestionably designed by Banksy for Clown
These album covers are unquestionably theft of Banksy designs (for reasons that met has clearly and thoroughly laid out)
The whole dumb debate about merch getting COA's and whether Clown were explicitly authorised to print the extra test press decks does not relate in any way to these albums

Let’s get this discussion going a bit more. I’ve been thinking we need another Clown thread ....

I agree with it not being an identical situation but they are the same in the fact that Pest Control have said both items are unauthorised.

Banksy was never connected with Dirty Funker and the images of the artworks featured on the album sleeves are infringing. Much lolling at the perceived increase in value of a fake item because it comes with a receipt.
