Banksy at Sotheby's this afternoon, by Danger Mouse on Apr 1, 2008 15:42:01 GMT 1, Hammer Price with Buyer's Premium: CND 3,750 Morons 5,250 Napalm 11,000 Toxic Mary Didn't meet reserve Bomb Hugger Didn't meet reserve $7500 for the signed CND? was that in good shape? damn, seems like a steal.
Not a real steal when you add the 25% Buyers Premium. Whats with this anyway? They also take a commision from the seller too right?

oh, I thought it went for 3k GBP, so it would be $7500 AFTER paying extra for the premium.. if that's the case, it's back to being a steal...

But Danger Mouse's figures include the Buyer's Premium. One has to add VAT on the premium where applicable.

Banksy at Sotheby's this afternoon, by seidbereit on Apr 1, 2008 16:03:10 GMT 1, Just had a browse through the catalogue and I have to say that it's one very strange mixture of artists they've put together. It seems to have been mainly a Matisse auction (the first 120 lots) with a very varied selection of other stuff tagged on from etchings, to lithographs to aquatints and engravings spanning over several eras.
I'm really not quite sure how Banksy came to be included in this in the first place to be honest... the fact that every second lot appears to be going unsold would suggest to me that too many different styles have been thrown together without there being enough of any of the styles to really generate any real interest among collectors who would normally be involved in those individual markets. In short, there seems to be too much diversity in what's on offer.

A little disappointed to be honest as my first thought on seeing the banksy prices was that there might be a brief period of people dumping banksy on the market and maybe some nice bargains to fill me boots with, but having looked at the rest of the catalogue (and the fact that 3 of the banksys were damaged in one way or another causing them to go cheap or not at all) I don't think this will have any effect at all. Ah well. Next time, maybe.

Banksy at Sotheby's this afternoon, by ABC on Apr 1, 2008 16:43:28 GMT 1, It might be the condition the bombhugger is in... "in good condition apart from pin holes to each corner with some creasing around the pin hole upper right" Is that correct? Pinholes? unbelievable - whats the cheapest a BH was ยฃ65 signed? - I wouldn't pin something I'd paid that sort of money for to the wall.....let alone how much its worth now. Was the TM in the same condition?
Why not? I blue tacked an RC to the wall, It was ยฃ25, how was I to know what the future held. Many old prints would have been stuck to walls and doors back then.

I guess - maybe its just me, but ยฃ25 - yeah - I might have bluetacked that to the wall.
ยฃ65 - for a later realeased signed BH - probably not. (I seem to remember this being the lowest price they ever were) - the difference of ยฃ40 is the difference between me pinning it to the wall - and me taking care of it. Maybe thats just me.
I guess I just don't have your laissez faire attitude to materialism and wealth to use RC's as dartboards/wrap your chips in ABC ;D

Banksy at Sotheby's this afternoon, by nickc on Apr 1, 2008 17:21:34 GMT 1, Let's also not forget that it's still holiday season. I'm not sure how that might affect the NY market but there are a few big hitters away at the moment because of schools being shut etc. It sounds like this was a little bit of a hash job by Sothebys on this occasion.

More likely to be because it had creases or pinholes in it. Not sure which, but definitely wasn't mint.

Banksy at Sotheby's this afternoon, by bobbymeachamjr on Apr 1, 2008 19:31:27 GMT 1, Morons is an all timer. Its a bit too sophisticated image for the haters who prefer the quick hitting military themed et al images. I imagine it comes down to demographics. Younger hipsters not too into it. Appeal for the more traditional art collector who wants 1 banksy in his/her collection. I'll side with the latter...

Banksy at Sotheby's this afternoon, by aginghippie on Apr 1, 2008 20:07:53 GMT 1, Pin holes (and they didn't look small) are a serious problem. I'm not surprised those prints didn't sell. Faile can get away with it because that's how they are but POW prints can't because that's damage which drastically reduces their attraction to the auction houses market.
