Its because they are not self promoting wankers. They are too busy painting on the streets, screen printing their own paste ups in basements and climbing ladders in the pissing rain to be sitting infront of a computer making crap screen prints on Adobe Illustrator.

Good night for Walker, Cyclops and Eelus

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by dslug on Jun 17, 2008 21:01:43 GMT 1, for anyone here who has never attended an auction here are a few tips.
Bid slowly, dont be too excited or you might end up bidding against yourself,if the auctioneer sees that you have a few bids left in you he might take a few bids "off the wall".
Dont leave bids in the book as you will rarely win, auctioneers use commission bids to open the bidding.
if you cant make the auction then book a telephone bid, they are free, just book it as early as you can,ie a week or more before the auction,as some houses run only a few phone lines.
Dont worry about moving hands legs etc during an auction, the auctioneer knows the difference between scratching your nose and bidding.

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by lee3 on Jun 17, 2008 21:07:02 GMT 1, >>>Dont leave bids in the book as you will rarely win, auctioneers use commission bids to open the bidding.<<<
The one advantage of doing this is not letting the auction fever get to you and going higher than you otherwise might. I left bids on the books for various Warhol shoe and watercolors and finally landed one at a day sale a year ago for about 3/4's of my absentee bid. It was a pleasant surprise to call the next morning on holiday and find out that not only did I win, but the system works too as there was still plenty of room to go in my absence.
two sides to every coin...

I prefer to use the phone personally, more of a buzz.
I picked up a nice mao on wallpaper (the pruple one) on the cheap at the start of last year, was very happy with it.

yes,I should have qualified this and said if you really really want something then dont leave commission bids,do it as a phone bid or else go to the auction.

if an artist is desperate enough to submit their own work to auction then maybe they're desperate enough to take it that one step further
not saying that's what happened but it's good to keep an open mind
