Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by alsbabar on Jun 2, 2008 0:06:16 GMT 1, Graeme501, True but remember that you are knowledgeable about the art, you know these things, you know what sort of price things cost roughly and you know about the artists and their different works... whos good and whos better etc. but not everyone at the sale will know these things. Hope its a good one.
lets hope people do their homework first, because I would hate to see a lot of people who are taking their first foray into the Urban Art scene, get their fingers burnt

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Deleted on Jun 2, 2008 0:06:22 GMT 1, i had a good look around selfridges last week and i enjoyed it much more than the Outsider show at Laz. Sure its not all big name stuff, I'm not much of a brand person anyway. I reckon its great to see so many lesser known artists. There are some very low/high estimates and some bargains to be had for sure.

By the way... sorry about putting peoples names at the beginning of my posts but i dont know how to do the quote thing you all do! never mind. Addendum... I have just noticed the Quote / Delete and Modify buttons.

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Coach on Jun 2, 2008 0:21:56 GMT 1, I think the peaches are the Mau Mau/Cyclops piece - 39 I think. The Dennings' will be interesting. The screaming Head is fabulous. The Neate's are superb, but way outa my league. Oh, and some of the Banksy's aren't bad either. And I really liked Micallef's Rainboy Boy when I first saw it, and had hoped it would be a nice small print ed, like the old Eyestorm ones, but hey ho... Still looks a beauty. They are the pieces I would go for if I won the lottery. Wishful... c

why is she the poor woman ? she was at the auction, obviously liked the image, and paid a price that she thought she could afford for the print
if she bought for investment, then thats her fault through lack of research, its good to remember that urban art isnt a sure fire way to make money

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by mcnuts on Jun 2, 2008 9:06:43 GMT 1, great post wizbong and weclome. good luck at the auction too!
I think that with the widespread "Lull" in the economy certain sectors of the investment market are looking to invest in something other than property... that could be Art. Mary at Dreweatts knows her stuff, she is an art collector herself.I have dealt with auction houses including Dreweatts / Bonhams / Sothebys et al all of my working life (i am 71 now), i know auction houses like to estimate low to gather interest except when forced to put a high reserve on a lot at the sellers wishes, or a high estimate to hype something up, they act for the seller dont forget. This is the first UK auction of its type (Dedicated) that i know of..and others are booked post this one. Taking all these things into consideration i predict a huge success at Dreweatts sale and i also think that prices will exceed their estimates by far. This is of course just my opinion. I will attend the sale for a specific piece of work, i am willing to pay a good price for it because i love it and i want it for myself, its a real nice piece and i can afford to buy it (hopefully). Please dont throw stones at me now!!.

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Bram on Jun 2, 2008 12:52:19 GMT 1, The Neates and Dennings are my picks along with the Mudwigs but I bet there will be the odd shock. Going to be a very interesting auction.
On the subject of ebay prices and auction house buyers not contemplating buying from ebay, this article may be of interest blogs.guardian.co.uk/art/2008/05/buy_it_now_hirst_hits_ebay.html

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Andy'77 on Jun 2, 2008 13:10:58 GMT 1, Can anyone see what the final sale prices were at the auction in Santa Monica yesterday: www.liveauctioneers.com/catalog/15691 I've won't let me log in. Specifically the Bansky (Lot#43) , Dolks (Lot#107) and Micallefs (Lot#213 and Lot#214)
The estimates on the Micallefs and Dolks seemed pretty high.
