Goldie gives a lesson in art history, by Wearology on Jun 7, 2008 14:48:49 GMT 1, I don't know Goldie from Gold - but I think what he was trying to say was that Hitler hijacked a symbol of deep religious significance to the Indian people and turned it into a symbol of hate. The original Swastik symbol goes counter clock wise to the one Hitler developed - Hitler arranged a meeting with the leader of the Swastik people and Hitler was warned that if he didn't stop using their icon immediately that his movement would never work and he would soon be killed - Hitler obviously didn't listen - If you ever get a chance to go to India there are Swastiks painted all over the place on peoples front doors etc, and it does look like a German Swasticka - It's a bit freaky - P.S. and for the guy who has shown interest in Bjork's habits she is my neighbor and a friend of ours in New York and it would be my pleasure to pass on your questions to her - thanks

Goldie gives a lesson in art history, by bankruptcreative on Jun 7, 2008 15:25:05 GMT 1, I think he expresses himself better in music as it was rather clumsy. His own reference pre-dates the 1950s, and as for the idea of being controversial, the Swastika used to be a peace symbol thing has already been done to death.
It even appeared on a bag in some large retailer in the US a while back and everyone was up in arms thinking it was a Nazi symbol.
I guess it just shows a large number of people in the western world like to presume that everything is purely related to them, centred around them, and have no broader sense of culture or history.

Goldie gives a lesson in art history, by m@san on Jun 7, 2008 15:46:23 GMT 1, In Japan they appear on every street corner in the local shinto shrines. I've seen then in the Andes on ancient inca ruins.
Yes it may be seen by some as a symbol of hate and I'm assuming that Goldie wants to use it to provoke people and cause a controversy.

The Fanta label was developed during WW2 by Coke in order to be able to keep their German market open whilst still selling to the home market, not really surprised they've got no problem with the symbol.

Well worth visiting if you are in Berlin!

Goldie gives a lesson in art history, by bankruptcreative on Jun 8, 2008 2:49:49 GMT 1, It did, and most likely still does, however, use coca leaf imported from South American countries:
www.talkleft.com/story/2003/07/05/775/35020
Ironic that the US government has a public policy of eradicating coca crops whilst at the same time ensuring coca-cola has the ability to import the leaf into the US for use in its drinks, thereby supporting coca farming?
