BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by Macdeee on Jan 21, 2010 13:10:34 GMT 1, by OrangeBug on Mon Nov 10, 2008 4:12 am Found this quote on a random art site... (very interesting) โI was told by someone very very very close to Banksy that Mr. Brainwash is a โBanksy prankโ aimed to prove he can start from nothing and build a brand from the ground up again. Which is why when you look at the show there is thousands of dollars worth of custom made props all paid for by Banksy. I was told that Banksy will announce he is behind Mr. Brainwash in April-May 2009. What I find funny though is how all of the garbage that is being sold through the name Mr. Brainwash will probably be worth as much as the Bansky stuff when it all goes public. Proving once again people are whores for brand names.โ forum.Expressobeans/viewtopic.php?t=28011 "It is described as the story of how an eccentric French shop keeper turned documentary maker attempted to locate and befriend Banksy, only to have the artist turn the camera back on him." news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/arts_and_culture/8471145.stm"Mr. Brainwash or MBW is the moniker of eccentric French filmmaker Thierry Guetta. After years filming the likes of Bansky and Obey he has put down the camera and taken up the spay-can and become one of Californiaโs most prolific street artists." www.artrepublic.com/biographies/222-mr-brainwash.html
Nah... This is a film about Mr Brainwash try to get close to Banksy and others like Shepard fairey and filming there every move, then when MBW realised that this "street art" game was an easy way of making money he dropped the filming and became an "artist". Banksy has probably brought all the old footage off MBW for A LOT OF CASH and turned it into a movie about him and how he is a bit of a joke.

Isn't MBW loaded anyway (he comes from a rich family).
Hope Banksy is not behind the MBW art, as some of the MBW stuff is straight up copied from other artists.

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by Daniel Silk on Jan 21, 2010 15:20:27 GMT 1, news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/arts_and_culture/8471145.stm?ls
"Notorious street artist Banksy, whose work has decorated his home town of Bristol and Israel's West Bank barrier, has turned his hand to film-making. Exit Through The Gift Shop will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, his agent told the BBC. It will be the first time the elusive artist, who has never revealed his identity, has spoken on camera. Billed as "the world's first street art disaster movie", its inclusion in the festival has been shrouded in secrecy. Sundance organisers are due to announce its inclusion at a press conference on Thursday. Unexpected stunts Exit Through The Gift Shop was left off the official programme, but speculation about the festival's Spotlight Surprise turned to Banksy after four stencils, believed to be by the artist, appeared on walls in Park City, where the festival is held. Banksy is known for teasing his audience, toying with authority, and continually pulling the wool over people's eyes to stage unexpected stunts. Last year, he installed 100 of his artworks in Bristol's council-owned museum under the noses of top officials, and once smuggled a blow-up figure of a Guantanamo Bay detainee into Disneyland. Exit Through The Gift Shop will have its world premiere at the festival on Sunday. It is described as the story of how an eccentric French shop keeper turned documentary maker attempted to locate and befriend Banksy, only to have the artist turn the camera back on him. Infamous artist Banksy said: "It's the story of how one man set out to film the un-filmable. And failed". The film contains exclusive footage of Banksy, and many of the world's most infamous graffiti artists at work. But until the film is shown, it is not known whether Banksy's identity will be revealed. In the past, the artist has both mythologised and subverted his own image, so the film could raise as many questions as it answers. John Cooper, director of the Sundance Festival, said the story was so bizarre that he questioned whether it could be real. "Exit Through The Gift Shop is one of those films that comes along once in a great while, a warped hybrid of reality and self-induced fiction while at the same time a totally entertaining experience," he added. Exit Through The Gift Shop is due to open in UK cinemas on 5 March."

Exit Through the Gift Shop A Banksy Film 2009 Categories: Spotlight, World Premiere, Documentary
"In the late 1990s, a hybrid form of graffiti began appearing in cities around the world. Enlisting stickers, stencils, posters, and sculpture and spread by the burgeoning Internet, it would be labeled โstreet artโ and establish itself as the most significant counterculture movement of a generation. Los Angelesโbased filmmaker Terry Guetta set out to record this secretive world in all its thrilling detail. For more than eight years, he traveled with the pack, roaming the streets of America and Europe, the stealthy witness of the worldโs most infamous vandals. But after meeting the British stencil artist known only as โBanksy,โ things took a bizarre turn.
Sundance has shown films by unknown artists but never an anonymous one. Banksy turns the tables on the only man who has ever filmed him, creating a remarkable documentary that is part personal journey and part an exposรฉ of the art world with its mind-altering mix of hot air and hype. In the end, Exit Through the Gift Shop is an amazing ride, a cautionary modern fairy tale . . . with bolt cutters."

"Banksy film is Sundance surprise (UKPA) โ 55 minutes ago Banksy has turned his hand to film-making - and his documentary is the surprise premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. The street artist's film Exit Through The Gift Shop is the Utah festival's Spotlight Surprise, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Rhys Ifans will narrate the documentary, which is billed as an exploration of street art. "Sundance has shown films by unknown artists, but never an anonymous one," said festival director John Cooper, who went on to describe the film as "part personal journey and part expose on the art world, with its mind-altering mix of hot air and hype." Several of Banksy's artworks have appeared in Park City, the home of Sundance, this week, with the artist apparently enlisting crop circle hoaxer John Lundberg."

Rough Screeners were handed out for feedback to people with a vested interest. Non-Disclosure Agreements were signed.

I know very little. Everything was on a need to know basis. I know they dug really deep and drew from some really great collections to put together quite the archive of street art footage from the past two decades.
I can't wait to see the film.
