Its the current issue (May) out in the shops now I think. Has a Banksy chimp on the cover. The mag has promised me a direct link to the pages, so I'll post it on here when I get it.

Great to have the chance to interact via the forum and see some of his work and get an insight to it. Beautiful work at Signal right now.

Dale Grimshaw the next big thing?, by beasty on Mar 26, 2008 22:01:31 GMT 1, A bit static? Interesting comment. Do you mean static in terms of movement? I think Dale captures movement really well in his paintings, better than GD. The only one of the three you mention that Dale has a similar style to regarding capturing movement is Conor Harrington IMO. I'd happily take originals from all 4 artists though as they all suit my taste, especially CH.

There will be more stuff at the show though I am sure Signal said he has more pieces for the show that won't be released on the site - I am sure signal/dale can confirm

Yep theirs going to be a about new 10 works available for the show - depending on how hard Dale works. Seen some of them already and they're amazing.

Before you all shove Dale's name in room 101 check out the work of his ancestor Atkinson Grimshaw - that great great great grandaddy could certainly paint. One of the best Victorian painters.

Dale Grimshaw the next big thing?, by morrissey1 on Mar 30, 2008 5:23:16 GMT 1, As someone who has been a part of this forum for a good bit now, it's interesting to see exactly how it all works. Is this artist the next big thing? There's such a forumla to all of this I find it fascinating (not that there is a formula to great art...just making referrence to the hype-machine of this and similar forums)......the buzz breaks out....some people post some pics of some art ...... people start hedging their bets for future investments (and yes, some do buy the art because they actually just like it).....originals sell relatively quickly for a relative newcommer, prints are made and sell out in seconds, and then everyone who lands an original and/or a print spends the better part of future days looking for the next buzz......and by that time the artist is forced to come up with some new style, a new "feel" or "direction" to their work, or risk becomming irrelevant before they can even afford to move out of their parents' house........IMO....(but I've had a couple of drinks, so forgive my ramblings....and happy Earth Hour by the way)

Dale Grimshaw the next big thing?, by barry cilit on Mar 30, 2008 7:04:57 GMT 1, I always go by this equation: URBAN ARTIST = X NOT URBAN ARTIST = Y POSSIBLE NEXT BIG THING = B ART SCHOOL GRADUATE = Z VOLUME OF WORK IN STREETS= V Quality of Prints = P
X+P+V300=B

Dale Grimshaw the next big thing?, by uac on Mar 30, 2008 9:28:14 GMT 1, Very interesting equation and completely correct for this particular movement IMO
An artist can produce good work, it doesn't mean they have to be the next big thing (certainly when they don't practice street art). I think forcing these expectations on artists and over hyping them to earlier can damage their career and make it impossible for them to sustain a constant popularity over years of working practice. Let them just develop and be recognized for what they produce.
