The Circus series – working sketches & images, by Agent Provocateur on Feb 18, 2009 19:21:14 GMT 1, Cheers Dellboyy and Fake... that was one person more than I needed to post some working photos
There are quite a few pics/stages so I'll post a new set up Wednesday every week.
It all begins with a nice chunk of wood and FIRE! I know this has probably been done before, but I got to thinking about how to add texture to my stencils, so began thinking about what else I could spray through them to get different shapes and lines. This didn't help, but it made me think why just spray paint through them? What else could I use... and fire was the answer
Armed with my new best friend, a blow torch (and some industrial fire resistant spray) this is how I begin:
1
2
3
4
There is an irony here tho, guess which part I sprayed the fire resistant spay!? Yep, you guessed it, inside the stars ;D I won't be recommending this product to anyone fast ;D. The fourth image shows the first base colour on and the start of the second stage...
I'd be interested to know if anyone else has used this technique or you know of anyone that has.
Feel free to comment, query, rant, dismiss ;D

If ever I catch light the APHQ packaging elves have had a crash course in 'Advanced Hose: Organisation and Leadership in Emergencies'... so at least I know their 'AHOLE' certificates are up-to-date! ;D

The Circus series – working sketches & images, by Agent Provocateur on Feb 25, 2009 10:47:56 GMT 1, Here's a few more pics of spray and acrylic being added, trying to build up some nice rich texture and colour for the background
5
6
7
8
9
I think I'm going to try and use a couple of these early stages in future pieces, rather than work over them, so that the background is a bit rougher.
Let me know how you think it's going... and if you can guess where it's going
AP
ps ahhh, and I have found another little website building site... so APHQ should be up and running very soon ;D

I'm going to be going back to some of these techniques on new pieces as I really like the textures. This piece was never meant to be that dirty, but I wanted little snippits to show through when finished.

The Circus series – working sketches & images, by Agent Provocateur on Mar 4, 2009 17:12:54 GMT 1, Sounds interesting T*3, fire mmm don't suppose you got any pics?
What I found interesting is that because the stencil's taken away, when you burn the wood you actually see the image appear... you can then start to play with the over and under burn!!! Made those last terms up ;D

The Circus series – working sketches & images, by Agent Provocateur on Mar 5, 2009 14:38:28 GMT 1, Cheers Coach... funny thing with doing this 'work in progress' thread is that I have no idea what peoples reactions will be to the final piece I usually just post the finished work and ask for comments then!
It's taken a lot of will power not to dump the whole series on in one go... but think it's a good way to slowly introduce the different stages without visual overload

The Circus series – working sketches & images, by Agent Provocateur on Mar 6, 2009 16:58:48 GMT 1, Sorry for another post, buuuut... I have finally managed to (half) build a new digital 'APHQ' This is the only place I could let people know as going near the main forum would be suicidal ;D It's the same URL as before, below:*
www.aprovocateur.co.uk
It's Friday, so I think I'm going to have a beer or two ;D
* Edit: I've now managed to point the new site to my normal URL so no need for the two addresses I posted before!

The Circus series – working sketches & images, by Agent Provocateur on Mar 10, 2009 12:54:10 GMT 1, And the next couple of stages which includes the start of the foreground! Hurrah ;D
With the burning, spray, acrylic and ink the background is starting to look nice and textured with a deep rich colour... now for the performer!
17
18
19
20
21
22
23
Starting with the silhouette, the white face and edge of the hat are added in... didn't need to do the whole area as the rest will be different colours or black.
Sorry for the bad pics, they've all been taken on my phone and the indoor ones were slightly poorer quality.

The Circus series – working sketches & images, by Agent Provocateur on Mar 10, 2009 13:21:13 GMT 1, True Wiz, my aim is to create a dark, dirty modern day twist on a victorian circus (with a touch of neon and glamour ). I began with simple one layer stencils, flat colour and tongue in cheek images... but with this series it has all been about the texture, feel and mood the images conjur up. This is the most time I've spent on one piece, so I'm going to be interested to hear the reactions when the final image is posted!
And apart from that it keeps me busy and out of trouble ;D
