Popped in yesterday and thought the Icon wall was definitely the most stunning work. Apart from the pieces on the ramp it was the closest to a street piece. The other wall felt a lot more restrained (which is no insult btw). Well done to the Collective. I hope it won't disappear forever behind a closed loading bay door.
Strangely, one of the stewards kept hassling people who wanted to take photos which was weird. She started swearing at me at one point which was quite funny. Managed a few photos on my flickr if you want a look.

Load - The Royal Albert Hall, by casualt on Jun 23, 2009 21:16:52 GMT 1, I agree with MikeeP the icon wall was miles ahead of anything else that was done down there. snik, dbo and DAC looked like their collaberation was much tighter than the other groups. finishes were cleaner and the images appeared to jump off the wall more than anything else. i don't know what the brief was but i didn't really get the pieces that were done going up the ramp as they seemed a bit out of context as to what the other art was doing. in the future the RAH should allow other artists to go in and do even more of the loading bay to fill in the 'gaps' between each of the pieces to merge them altogether.

Load - The Royal Albert Hall, by Dan Kitchener on Jun 23, 2009 21:49:29 GMT 1, The icon wall was in fact the wall with Jimi Hendrix, Pavarotti, The Albert Hall building etc, the other large wall was by DBO, Snik and Fin, the wall with Churchill, The Beatles etc ( can't think of the name of the wall ! ). This wall was done by projecting photos and then filling them in for the large figures, then adding shading with paint brush, and lower down actual cut stencils were used, hence why it was so super crisp! The icon wall was done in a similar method, although had a more freehand approach in areas, esp with the paint splats and the Albert hall that I did, I did with cans freehand and detail with paint markers. The logo wall myself and Blam and Babel did with a mix of freehand can and freehand can over projections, so a real mix of styles on all the walls. The ramp wall was very last minute addition that we didn't know we were to do, myself and Eyesaw cracked into this on the monday and covered as much as we could in 6 hours straight, using stencils and freehand can! In hindsight it would have been great if we'd had longer to do this ramp wall, but it was very last minute and we were shattered after 4 days of painting solidly! Glad everyone liked it, everyone involved put in huge amounts of time and effort!

Load - The Royal Albert Hall, by Deleted on Jun 24, 2009 0:51:03 GMT 1, Thanks Dan, summed it all up perfectly. Did the RAH talk about any further events? I think casualt is right about the opportunity to bring all the pieces together. Would be interesting, although I can't imagine what theme the management would agree to. Can't let you lot loose in there unrestrained. ;D Anarchy at the Albert Hall, coming some time....maybe.

never mind at least I got a couple of pieces up on the ramp!

However I am gutted as I have been asked to paint a pub garden wall with music and rock stars. I was really excited about the whole project and and have started drawing and cutting stencils, however how the f*ck do I follow that! You are a bunch of Complete Bast8rds

Ye, the icon wall was by me,grafter, eyesaw and Dan, well thats the name the press seemed to give it, call them what u want, lol I liked the way there were 3 very different approaches to each wall and reckon they all came together well at the end, as for other artists getting in there in future, would be great though would be very suprised if it happened!
