Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by mash on Feb 12, 2009 19:48:32 GMT 1, What's the total number of Splash's out there? I think 10 on boards, 20 white, 20 red, 20 blue and then the triptych of four and then this release of 50 so around 130 or a few more which isnt that many imho and is less than a normal pow/BRP. The price is probably a bit much though.

Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by kingofprussia on Feb 12, 2009 19:49:49 GMT 1, I think this release may satisfy some of those who really want the image but clearly those of us who already have it are a bit bothered by it. If there weren't already first editions with variants (red/blue), canvas edition, and wood editions out there it may not rub people as much. It just waters down the market regarding this image. 400 pounds is a lot of scratch to most of his fan base I would imagine so I doubt this will sell out very quickly if at all. I was really keen on this image for a long time so I was obviously stoked to see him release his wood version which I jumped on pretty quick. I'm sure those who already had the image rolled their eyes when they saw the wood release. There is a fine line an artist needs to consider when they hit the market with a popular image. I don't care either way b/c I enjoy my wood version and its value is not important to me b/c I like the art. Grafter's popularity is completely dependent upon his art and the decisions about how he sells it. He'll live with the consequences good or bad.

Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by lazk on Feb 12, 2009 19:54:50 GMT 1, Listen-
I do not think you will be getting the true fan of Grafter purchasing these. This is not what we wanted. We just wanted Grafter to come out with something new. Urban Angel prices are ridiculous and WHY is Grafter not selling this himself and cutting off the PORK?? I do blame the original owners of Splash to be upset.

Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by Standard on Feb 12, 2009 20:04:21 GMT 1, The pricing is ambitious at such worrying times but only time will tell.
I hope it sells well though as what's done is done. However I certainly wouldn't like to see any other forms of the image and personally for me the image works best as a stand alone work. If I didn't have the image already I would be tempted to buy this and cut it up into 3 smaller versions.

Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by lazk on Feb 12, 2009 20:06:53 GMT 1, I honestly was thinking the same thing. However, 2 of them would not be signed or numbered? plus it would throw the whole collection out of whack....different numbers everywhere....

Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by fielder on Feb 12, 2009 20:11:46 GMT 1, If it had been single prints exactly the same as earlier editions then i'd think it might not be the best idea. However it's the first time it's been used in a triptych as far as i'm aware, so seems ok to me. Didn't Hush for example release the graf geisha triptych after the single edition?
The Graf Geisha prints sold out straight away, but the triptych is still available and has been for a long time. I think these will hang around as well. I don't think anyone will need to f5 to bag one of these bad boys.

Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by danmuppet on Feb 12, 2009 20:15:54 GMT 1, i have always been a big fan and follower of grafters work, he is a great guy and i will always sing his praises!! the print is amazing and i would love one- however it is a bit heavy on the price and to be honest i much prefered it when he sold independently through big cartel and the forum for a more reasonable price!! on the other hand this is a big step forward for grafter as he is now represented by a cool gallery and they all need to earn some dough!! remember- you used to be able to buy banksy prints for 50 squids!

Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by They call me Stephen on Feb 12, 2009 20:27:05 GMT 1, maybe so but they were through a 'cool gallery'
love the image but can't afford to spend that sort of money at present. would have looked nice to see the jump/splash happen over the 3 images instead of the same image on different coloured backgrounds
still good luck to grafter...top bloke to deal with

Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by Deleted on Feb 12, 2009 20:36:25 GMT 1, if you want splash, but not the tryptych, buy it and chop it into 3 pieces. sell the other 2 in cheap frames for ยฃ200 each and you've got one virtually for free. I dont own a splash and am not keen on the image, but i tend to agree that once an edition is sold out, move on. if different versions are planned announce before release. does anyone know anything regarding Law and art editions?. a framer once told me that to release an edition of the same image without sigificant differences was against some rules of the industry??. i do feel that this is taking this piss a little, the same could be said of banksy and trolleys, Lucy Mac releasing twins and then and hour later without prior warning 'twins special'. it does has obvoius finicial implications and could i guess work either way for the artist or the punter. but for me the most important thing about this kind of thing is as an art lover is spending money on something that there is then a special version out there which i couldnt afford, because i bought the original version. very frustrating.

Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by deepdownboy on Feb 12, 2009 21:17:30 GMT 1, Going to add my two-peneth here...............
Having bought all three canvas's, I do not feel begrudged at all with this release. This is on heritage paper and it will not have the depth of a canvas. after all there was only 20 prints issued per colour (sorry 50 of the white), and I think 10 wooden issues of each ( or was it just white?) and 10 canvas's. So all in all your counting 40 items per colour, I think the only thing that is wrong is that they got the sums wrong with the original print run. I like Grafter as a person and enjoy his work very much.
I think that sums up my feeling about it, sorry if anyone does feel aggrivied about the trip release.

Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by Wearology on Feb 12, 2009 21:28:49 GMT 1, I felt duped when The First Great Weston Print was released more than once and there was some sort of mystery on who is going to sign what edition and who the artist was. As for Grafter I believe he was trying to satisfy his fans and his heart was in the right place, but in retrospect he now realized that it was probably a business mistake. Artists / creative people often look at money as a necessary evil and in this case Grafters motivation was genuine but the result could have negative ramifications in the future. Not that I need to praise Grafter as most on this thread know "he is a top bloke" - but in my dealings with him and as a proud owner of Splash on Wood , Make a Wish Print , Make a Wish Canvas & Eskimo Girl Print he is a great artist to deal with and hopefully he will get a pass on his business faux pau from the masses. I hope that other artists on this forum could learn a lesson from this experience and recognize that a limited edition with a set amount of pieces should remain that way. If Banksy wants to re-release anything from the past 10 years than I think 90% of us would be o.k. with that.

I agree, and i own the original release. Most of the people who are having a dig, are only concerned in the resale value of their prints. This release in no way affects the desirability of the original.

If I didnt have a blue version already, which is my most loved, I'd snap this up...good luck with these Grafter, they will sell out no problem, pay no attention to the to$$ers on here dissing your work.. its easy to type, not so easy to create...LOL Neale

Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by robinbanks on Feb 12, 2009 21:38:05 GMT 1, This would have been much sweeter had it been a HOP, STEP and a SPLASH!
Don't really see the point in repeating the same image 3 times and not really digging the french flag in the background.
Nice stand alone image though.

Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by Standard on Feb 12, 2009 21:58:54 GMT 1, It's a no brainer should banksy release VLH in triptych form, it would sell out immediately. But you would still ask why? Wouldn't you?
I like the Hop Skip & Splash idea.
I don't think anyone has lowered the tone with b**chiness, nor 'dissed' Grafters work on this thread. There is more to art than monetary value and although I think a few owners will be a tad disappointed, I don't think it's going to affect the current value of the original release all that much. However it's nice to know you have something that you not only know is a piece of art that you love but also that not many other folk have.
It is constructive to feedback and I'm sure Grafter is thankful for any kind of feedback, whether he agrees or disagrees with it. I'm sure it will help with any future decisions. It's not that constructive to start the name calling though.
Overall I hope it sells well for Grafter

Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by harryh74 on Feb 12, 2009 22:07:04 GMT 1, I own a white splash, I have no reason to feel upset about the triptych and neither should any one else, this is a different thing, a different item, a different size and shape, a different beast if you like. The fact that the original splash was sold by Grafter and not a gallery makes it a little more personal and special. This is like a 2nd edition book, it gives more people the chance to own a version who were not able to first time around.

Oh and while we're at it, the French flag is the other way round - blue, white, red left to right.

Grafter Splash - New Triptych available tomorrow, by urbanangel on Feb 12, 2009 22:12:06 GMT 1, Just for clarification, the Triptych is a completely hand-painted / stenciled / sprayed original, it is not a print.
The entire sheet is painted white, then the red and blue backgrounds are painted, then the stencil added, then the three splashes are added last. Each piece takes 3 days to dry.
If it were a hand finished 'screen-print', it would have sold for a considerably lower price point.
This is the first time Urban Angel have sold a version on paper.
Hope this clears up the 'print' confusion.
Thanks.
Andrew
