New Case @ CAMPBARBOSSA, by Gallery My Arse on Nov 24, 2008 16:10:21 GMT 1, It is dull and boring and will be forgotten about in a few months whilst the next big thing is raved about. We need some quality control here. Just how many shows can an artist have in a year? Saturation point is being reached with so many of these artists.

New Case @ CAMPBARBOSSA, by pezlow on Nov 24, 2008 18:25:31 GMT 1, So loads of people can do photorealistic art. My kids paint with stencils. That doesn't make them brilliant or mean that Banksy is now demoted to useless.
That's true and I see your point but so many people have justified buying and liking case because he has got "real talent" by which I assume that people are saying he can paint photorealistically.
As for the subject matter I have had 2 kids and been present at both births but that doesn't stop this particular piece being ugly, not beautiful. Who is the older kid in the piece? Why does that kid have a huge piece of umbilical cord wrapped round his wrist? Those things didn't happen at any birth I attended.
I kinda agree with the post that said Case seems to do this art just to shock and people say they like it in exactly the same way that they say they like, for example, a paul mccarthy piece of video art or a jake and dinos willy sculpture - because it makes them feel radical.
Well call me conservative but it doesn't float my boat at all.

New Case @ CAMPBARBOSSA, by wiz on Nov 24, 2008 19:13:52 GMT 1, I agree. It's average at best. Don't believe the hype from the "galleries" and from the people who have recently bought one of the works. Its all a 3 month bubble with much of this stuff. Buy, sell, profit and then move on to the next artist to make a quick buck on. I'm an illustrator. Give me ยฃ1000.00 and I'll run you up something similar and I'll donate ยฃ950.00 of it to Shelter.
I bought my first Case over twelve months ago and i know people who have older works by him. I am v sure that someone could knock up a copy or alternative of an Adam Neate street piece with a piece of card and a marker pen but it wouldnt be a Neate would it?. All a matter of taste, we cannot all like the same Artists.

I own a Case and i think he is a great artist, Im not forcing anyone to like or buy his work and im not hyping him to force up prices. To say that people big up artists and then move onto the next big thing, is a very sweeping statement. I have art that has been in my collection for 20 years and only buy what i like.

New Case @ CAMPBARBOSSA, by Poppy Sunshine on Nov 25, 2008 8:48:32 GMT 1, That's right ronhill. There are a few too many ill thought out sweeping statements flying around and it's a bit disappointing when you come across what started out being an unusually interesting and informative thread. I doubt a real dull and boring piece would have provoked such a response. Lots of artists are indeed at saturation point but I think you'd have to aim that comment at one of those with a show and a print run release every month. I hardly think Case falls into that category when you'd struggle to find half a dozen examples of his work across these threads.

New Case @ CAMPBARBOSSA, by Gallery My Arse on Nov 25, 2008 10:31:37 GMT 1, Buy what you like. If you like it, that's great but to a lot of people on these boards it's really average work. It's produced such a response not because of the quality of the piece. It's about the hype created for a month or two so "online galleries" can buy from an artist and then flip at huge profits. "Online Galleries" buy up a whole load of work by an artist, write a load of nonsense on here and people dive in. Wait a few months and then buy a piece when they've moved on to the next thing to be shamelessly plugged. I've only been buying art for 10 years or so, so not as long as ronhill, but just scratch a little under the surface and outside of the real galleries who do promote, invest, encourage and so on there is a load of bollocks going on, particularly with so called Urban Art.

I realise this. To me a lot of other artists work is average, i dont buy it. I have only been been collecting art for forty odd years, i bought my first commission in 1960, i have also been in the design game since then so yes i know what you mean re hype and supply etc. but after the initial first few years i have only ever bought what i liked myself .... i hope

New Case @ CAMPBARBOSSA, by Poppy Sunshine on Nov 25, 2008 11:09:36 GMT 1, Thanks for that gallerymyarse I get a bit more of what you are saying. It's a bit difficult sometimes to appreciate who's having a general moan and who actually has a point to make. The opportunity for online galleries to hype an artist and create some price inflation is certainly a cause for concern. I think certain measures come in now and again to help curb this and generally they are by the real galleries as you put it who only want to promote certain artists for the right reasons. Even then there is as always the huge difference in taste and opinion about an artists work such as with Jose Parla. Elms seem to be looking after him and not allowing his work to be flipped if they can help it but there is still a big divide in opinion about whether it's scribble which anyones 3 year old could do or whether the guy is a genius. Herakut have this commission only thing going on at the moment and it's been mentioned that if you can get one you can't sell it for 2 years. Even then there are the lovers and haters of their work. A lot of people are jumping on the urban art bandwagon at the moment as the next great thing and pushing up the price of some real crap. However, as you say, buy what you like and right now I like Case and it has nothing to do with investment or what anyone else has said I simply like his stuff. What's to your taste gallerymyarse?

New Case @ CAMPBARBOSSA, by crazyarsemother on Nov 25, 2008 11:52:38 GMT 1, The more I paint the more I am impressed by other painters who can push and explore the medium and produce different effects. IMO I have not seen any of his work in the flesh but his use of colour is fantastic and his images hold a resinous and endurance. What is also very impressive and I think a good sign of an integral artist is that he divides the camp with no fear. He is not reproducing tired ideas or elements and imagery that holds a romance with the viewer. One gets the impression that he loves painting and he loves exploring it. Very Freshing and inspirational.

New Case @ CAMPBARBOSSA, by hick on Nov 25, 2008 11:58:11 GMT 1, gallerymyarse i think you are being a bit naive saying case as an artist is 'average' as even if you do not like the subject matter (which you clearly don't) you can't deny the talent involved in creating photrealistic graff (which is a completely different form of art than stencils etc) case has been spraying for over 15 years so I hardly think he is a jonny come lately in the scene, he is managed by the same person that looks after herakut and everyone know case and akut are part of the ma'claim crew so it follows suit he would make the transition from street to gallery using the same team.
He clearly has talent , although i have not seen much i would want on my wall i can appreciate the talent involved.
The money his work goes for is in line with the cost of originals from a lot of artists (i could understand you saying the work was over inflated if you were just a print buyer as the jump in about 1k-but i assume you are not ?) over the last year his work has crept onto peoples walls, so hardly think 10 people owing and showing pieces on here is super hype.
Poppysunshine with regard to herakut I have a piece in the comission only show and I personally think its stunning enough to spend nearly two months wages on, if it holds it's price , cool, if not oh well i have a piece that means a lot to me on my wall. I think the two year thing is actually spot on, over the last year or so , we have all seen artists running to the big auction houses to sell work, then months later crash and burn because every auction that comes up features 4 or 5 works by said artist, the only herakut that has been to auction has been sent there by frankie (it sold for market value around the same as the new commissisons) by not oversaturating the market he is giving them time to breathe and deveop, find a price footing in an untested and unsure market and hopefully develop a long lasting career, for me there work is better than than banksy, walker etc etc etc, but that is me, it is dark and yet strangely beautiful.
just my two pence

New Case @ CAMPBARBOSSA, by Poppy Sunshine on Nov 25, 2008 12:22:02 GMT 1, Hi Hick, I agree with all you said so hope none of my previous post came across wrong. Seth Carmichael told me about the 2 year thing with Herakut and I think it's a brilliant idea. I'm just a bit worried about how I'm going to get one myself. I loved that Herakut in the auction but ironically didn't go for it because of the bare breasts debate I was likely to find myself in. Yet here we are with bloodied babies, umbilical cords and afterbirth.

New Case @ CAMPBARBOSSA, by jonpud on Nov 25, 2008 12:50:11 GMT 1, So loads of people can do photorealistic art. My kids paint with stencils. That doesn't make them brilliant or mean that Banksy is now demoted to useless. Why does that kid have a huge piece of umbilical cord wrapped round his wrist? Those things didn't happen at any birth I attended.
Think you will find that is the childs foot, not the cord!

i think u might have got a bit mixed up with the definition of so called 'online galleries' - campbarbossa is the official representative of case, as well as others like herakut, and works with the artist managing their work, their is no 'buying a whole load of work by the artist' and hyping up
