!MAYDAY!MAYDAY! - an urban art show in Bristol, by mbv on May 6, 2008 13:31:14 GMT 1, The Cut the Mustard show also includes Banksy work taken off the streets of Bristol (removed from the Full Moon Pub).
A campaign has been launched against this kind of thing on the Bristol Graffitti website - bristolgraffiti.wordpress.com/2008/05/06/media-release-save-street-banksys/

!MAYDAY!MAYDAY! - an urban art show in Bristol, by jellya on May 6, 2008 16:47:29 GMT 1, I popped into the show a couple of times this morning.
I must say my view on Morons has completely changed since seeing it. It's such a better print than I thought it was!
The unauthenticated piece is indeed from the pub wall on Moon Street, It's now in a crate construction holding it together in the gallery.

Thats such a shame.
Mean Mister Mustard sleeps in the park Shaves in the dark trying to save paper Sleeps in a hole in the road Saving up to buy some clothes Keeps a ten-bob note up his nose Such a mean old man Such a mean old man

!MAYDAY!MAYDAY! - an urban art show in Bristol, by mrmustard on May 6, 2008 20:11:40 GMT 1, Thanks to all the people that came along today, the show is ongoing for a few more days. I won't comment on any of the negative comments as everyone is entitled to their opinions and we truly do welcome anyones views. The main problem is people jumping to conclusions without knowing about the real stories behind some of the pieces.
We were approached by the Bristol Evening Post today to comment on the 'Save Street Banksys' campaign which we were happy to talk over with the reporter. Some of the points made in the press release authored by the Save Street Banksys person were actually liable as they were completely untrue but at this stage we won't be taking any legal action against that person. The article by the Evening Post will show both sides to the story and should be in tomorrows edition. We would also like to thank the person that was giving away free 'maybe Banksy' pieces as they were called. It caused a slight stir and someone that found one came to us to see if we wanted to buy it! We declined of course. We assume it was the same person leaving these pieces that released the Save Street Banksys press release.
Highlight of the day - has to be the guy that bought a Banksy print for ยฃ500 and left with a huge smile on his face as it was a bargain.
I won't be drawn to comment any further on the show just now but do appreciate the many PM's of support.

A colour Morons with a very small crease. The guy that bought it didn't even notice the crease until I pointed it out when he asked to buy it. He said the crease was so minimal it was of no concern to him. He left looking very happy. At least we made someones day! The Mau Mau and Insect pieces were also really well received and snapped up. Could be their (well overdue) time now...

!MAYDAY!MAYDAY! - an urban art show in Bristol, by ryskip on May 6, 2008 21:32:58 GMT 1, How come this print was sold so much cheaper than the others you have for sale? Surely the crease wasn't that bad?! ยฃ500 for a signed Banksy I though those days were long gone from the secondary market.

Are you talking about me? I said "I don't think the street art at Andipa was for sale was it"? It was a question, not a STATEMENT!

!MAYDAY!MAYDAY! - an urban art show in Bristol, by mrmustard on May 8, 2008 18:44:01 GMT 1, Sorry to hear you found the show dissapointing slammer. We only have a tiny space so can't show a lot of work. The reason we have that space is so that up and coming artists can show there work in an accessible environment. The reason for the urban show was to get a cash injection into the place so we can pay the rent and wages for the next few months and get new artists work in rather than showing the established work we have on display at the mo. The most interesting thing that has happened this week is the amount of people from here that have come in and said they thought I would be sat in a suit dripping in gold - only to find me as I am, a scruffy artist!
Would like to add that one of Banksy's family members came in today. They said I could mention it but would deny all knowledge if asked and also not disclose just how close this relative was....so I won't, but bugger me it was a BIG moment in my life! He thought it was great and seemed to think Mr B would think all the hype, all the grief I have had on here and the state of things surrounding is relative would be hilarious to the man himself. He also said he thought Banksy would be pleased we were trying to keep an art space for up and coming locals going via his and other peoples work worthy. Make of that what you will...and i'm sure you will!

!MAYDAY!MAYDAY! - an urban art show in Bristol, by mrmustard on May 8, 2008 18:59:23 GMT 1, Ahh the old "I'm Banksy's brother" trick! It wasn't a brother, Banksy only has a sister as far as I know. The things I was told made me 99.9% sure it wasn't a trick. Think what you like, makes no odds to me. It does make me laugh that everyone thinks they know or assume how Banksy feels/thinks when in reality barely anyone has a clue. Some of his friends have been in this week, famous people - they all agreed he would find it hilarious. Lest we forget the Morons artwork...
