Palestine Splashed Donkey has been resurected..., by laing on Feb 15, 2008 21:31:01 GMT 1, Asking price is $500K, including shipping and all destination charges... Interested parties can PM me for sale consideration. I am not the seller, it's a group of Palestinian men with hungry families. I am just friends of theirs.
...may be so but what is your cut, or are you just doing this to help out the hungry Paletinians?

Palestine Splashed Donkey has been resurected..., by goffy on Feb 15, 2008 21:34:12 GMT 1, They are that desperate they are asking for 500k! Yeah right. And don't go saying it's the market value, you will just look stupid. What about the other people affected the same way in Palestine, will they be getting a slice of the Banksy pie? Or will it be just your friends because you built their hopes up by saying that they could get a fortune from it if they sold it! What happens when they don't, will they be really disappointed or would they see what they may get for the Faile or Swoon? I suppose it is one way of getting the wall down.

Palestine Splashed Donkey has been resurected..., by jamesreeve5 on Feb 15, 2008 21:38:00 GMT 1, Jet Set, how might I ask did you become acquainted with these poor Palestinian men? Las Vegas is far away from Palestine. And if they are too poor to buy food and such for their families, how do you keep in touch with them?
I am not trying to antagonize anyone here or claim sides, but I think it would be better received if you explained how this came about, and your role in it.
Would like to hear more!

Palestine Splashed Donkey has been resurected..., by seidbereit on Feb 15, 2008 21:58:34 GMT 1, Does anyone else find it a little patronising that were supposed to believe these "Palestinian men with hungry families" aren't clever enough and able enough to do all this on their own without help from Las Vegas of all places?
I'm pretty sure if these people "have nothing" and therefore have no understanding of greed then they also have absolutely no concept of what half a million dollars even is and would be just as happy with a few thousand or even hundred dollars, which is probably all they'll be getting out of this for doing all the hard work of cutting the section of wall out as I bet noone from Las Vegas got his hands dirty with the diamond cutter.
Your log in name is Jet-Set Graffiti FFS! I mean, what sort of image exactly do you think that conjures up about your role in this?? To me it just says $$$ and sounds like ker-ching!
Not worth $500k anyway. No way that's in mint condition.

not normally somebody to stick up for the israelis but they weren't guilty of removing the slingshot rat.

Palestine Splashed Donkey has been resurected..., by BK83 on Feb 15, 2008 23:25:17 GMT 1, I'm confused Jet-Set -- why can't you reveal yourself? If you're so well connected and working "for the artists" why can't we do some of our own research on who you in fact are? -- and furthermore, if you are indeed who you say you are? Sorry, but I've never had any faith in Las Vegas, and I think anyone would have to be mad to have any faith in a business man from Las Vegas? I mean the town wasn't exactly built on a bunch of honest men, now was it....
SO, who are you?

Palestine Splashed Donkey has been resurected..., by seidbereit on Feb 15, 2008 23:42:44 GMT 1, Does anyone else find it a little patronising that were supposed to believe these "Palestinian men with hungry families" aren't clever enough and able enough to do all this on their own without help from Las Vegas of all places? Does anyone think it's patronizing to think it's patronizing to bring to light someone's intelligence and vision? Hmmm. Interesting thoughts here. Like I said, they did think of and do this on their own. My interest is in creating a more sustainable business with them and other artist's. I will also say that I think it's great if they can get a big chunk of money in one shot. (POINT 1) You're absolutely right though, they don't have any concept of what half a million dollars is. In fact, they think it's about half of the average annual income of people that live in London, or USA. They watch movies and see TV too, so they absolutely have a retarded view of our value system. Add to that the fact that some artist guy comes along and throws something up that is apparently worth so much and leaves it, it skews their perception of our value system way out of whack. I mean, it's hard enough for people in the developed world to understand it... (POINT 2)Again, your efforts at making these people seem primitive is unsettling to say the least... (POINT 3) As humans sharing the same planet with you, they have just as much right as you do to value something. This is one of the only times in their lives when they have held the cards, it's the only time in the world where they have wielded any form of power, and you expect them to diminish it simply to reinforce the standards of globalization and imperialism? Seems kind of weird to me, but I come to the situation with a completely different sphere of influence on the matter... Oh, and you would win the bet, I certainly didn't get my hands dirty with the diamond cutter. My hands got dirty enough in December. Now, in regards to my screen-name. The intention is to bring attention to the perception of a apparent contradiction between the 2 words... Why do we continue to feel the need to establish Urban Art in opposition to anything that is not Urban Art? It's also a reflection of the fact that yes, I travel quite frequently for the chance to see art in public spaces all over the world, and I do it with the artist's. Be careful with your assumptions, as I am a man with experience working and supporting numerous efforts to create art in public spaces. I have risked my own freedom around the world to help make the scene as we have it now (POINT 4), and yes, I love the fact that after so many years of toiling in the sewers and dark corners of the world, we can embrace this art collectively and share in the appreciation with others who wouldn't normally give it a second glance. (POINT 5)
Point 1: I remain unconvinced that your interest is in much else but yourself. I have absolutely no doubt these people, if they had so chosen and had been left alone to do so, could quite easily have finished what they started without you whatever they gained from it would be theirs and they'd still have been happy with it.
Point 2: (see point 3)
Point 3: ...and you say I make an effort to portray these people as primitive? Utterly laughable. I did nothing of the sort. I said "Does anyone else find it a little patronising that were supposed to believe these Palestinian men with hungry families aren't clever enough and able enough to do all this on their own". Put another way, I'm the one who DOES believe they are quite easily able to pull this off without you, you, on the other hand, have merely poisoned them with your fiscal advice which doesn't really sit all that well with the part of your missive I've marked as being Point 2 does it?
Point 4: dear me.... I almost thought you were going to tell us you died on the cross for us for a minute. Are you Bob Geldof or Bono or someone?
Point 5: but we won't be sharing in it will we. Someone who has (you hope) half a million dollars will have it at the bottom of his garden. Where's the sharing in that?
You've lost any modicum of repect I could possibly still have had for you mainly because you tried to twist my words around to suit your own purpose which - on the basis of this RUBBISH, I've just replied to - looks more like some sort of application for admission to sainthood for yourself, rather than actually helping these people with long term future prospects, nope - the quick buck and lots of it in one go, that's the Las Vegas way.
In the words of Molesworth I diskard you. Respond as you will, I couldn't care a fig.

Dont waste your words I dont need anything from you I dont care where youve been or what you plan to do

Dont waste your words I dont need anything from you I dont care where youve been or what you plan to do
Stone me, why cant you see Youre a no-one nowhere washed up baby whod look better dead
Your tongue is far too long I dont like the way it sucks and slurps upon my every word

Palestine Splashed Donkey has been resurected..., by romanywg on Feb 16, 2008 1:29:27 GMT 1, Forgive me but I don't quite understand. In your second rant you say "Believe me, they aren't going to use this money to buy bombs; they are going to use this money to get the f**k out, while they still have SOME family legacy left..." Then in your 5th or 6th rant you quote "Believe me, when all is said and done, a good chunk of a certain neighborhood in Bethlehem will have money to reinvest in their infrastructure and quality of living. $500K will buy alot, but when it's split up 10 or so ways, it doesn't end up being that much individually..." So which one is it? It's make your mind up time!

Palestine Splashed Donkey has been resurected..., by romanywg on Feb 16, 2008 1:53:19 GMT 1, You know, the more I think about this the more I get pissed off. I was going to go over there next month to photograph the graffiti or whatever you want to call it, thereby spending my money in Bethlehem and paying a taxi driver to go to all the sites where the art has been put up. Isn't this how it was meant to work? Banksy and friends put up some art and a lot of fans go over and enjoy the sights. Now I have lost interest as there probably isn't too much to see that hasn't either been defaced or cut up by some enterprising art dealers. I would probably have spent ยฃ500 whilst there, times that by a 1000 people feeling the same way when they read about this in the newspapers and there goes the local economy!
