Selfishges&Co Departmental Stall is CLOSED, by Mark Perronet on Sept 9, 2010 21:50:05 GMT 1, How did you know my bow tie was really a camera? And I thought to have a camera built into a portable telphone was really the latest thing. Seriously though the lighting had just blown the fuses and was popping and fizzing and the underground printing facility was in semi darkness. Looking forward to the 18th and have some created some designer labels to enhance ones clothes/accessories, I may post a pick if everyone promises not to be rude about it.

OK, here's the graphical design for the very exclusive Wedding Service we'll be offering (coach was cool with it). I am off to one tomorrow so will do some serious alcohol related research!
Did I mention Mr Oakley could well be bringing his Storm Trooper friend to intimidate the customers?

Selfishges&Co Departmental Stall is CLOSED, by alexnh123 on Sept 13, 2010 16:18:08 GMT 1, To launch the latest premier shopping experience in the UK, for one day only, Selfishges&Co Departmental Stall is having a grand opening of its flagship stall at the Bermondsey Street Festival. There will be amazing special offers, freebies and even balloons if we can afford them. More information will be posted here as and when we think of something... this stencil image looks familiar - isn't this from the french connection advert - the one that David Bowies son did... www.adrants.com/images/french_connection_fight.jpg

Selfishges&Co Departmental Stall is CLOSED, by Agent Provocateur on Sept 13, 2010 16:34:10 GMT 1, Well spotted alex... I tried to get Mrs AP and a friend to pose but for some reason they weren't up for it! When I saw this image I thought it fitted perfectly with my thoughts on consumerism and our obsession with accumulating stuff.
I originally posted it back in May after I'd finished a small canvas...

Selfishges&Co Departmental Stall is CLOSED, by Agent Provocateur on Sept 13, 2010 17:27:26 GMT 1, I know what you're saying alex, and I do usually steer clear from blatant biting. If I can explain, there is method in my madness, although not a lot.
The original idea behind this stencil and the subsequent adaptation to the 'Departmental Stall' was the re-appropriation of existing mass marketing, changing it's meaning and putting it back out there.
My simple question was would the viewer just glance at the image without taking it all in and assume it was the obvious, or would they do a double take once they knew something was different.
With the Departmental Stall I have tried follow this idea on, using signs and posters we see every day in most high streets but twisting their meaning. To the casual glance the 'Sale Ends Yesterday' looks (nearly) identical the classic 'Sale Ends Tomorrow', the same with 'Buy One Get None Free'.
How anesthetised are we all to the advertising all around us every day, do we bother to take it in or are we so programmed by the repetitive designs that we're brainwashed into knowing what it means before we read?
One of the underlying reasons behind all of this is the dire economic climate we're in and how shops try and get us into their spaces to part with our cash... is their aim to provide us with high quality goods that we really need or is it just to make as much money as possible not caring how well made or useful it is.
That's probably a very bad explanation, but hopefully helps explain my thinking a bit!
The bottom line is you're right in what you say.

Selfishges&Co Departmental Stall is CLOSED, by rosstierney on Sept 13, 2010 18:15:54 GMT 1, A lot of stencil artists, if not the majority, use convenient references, including Banksy! Take 'Forgive Us Our Trespassing' for example. I was going to say you don't need to explain yourself but you have and at least there's some depth to it. Not many can hold their heads up to that!

Selfishges&Co Departmental Stall is CLOSED, by Agent Provocateur on Sept 14, 2010 18:28:57 GMT 1, Thanks Ross... I understand where alex is coming from and respect the view point, just wanted to explain the idea.
As it's the week before I don my mask and brown trench type coat(!) there's been some home framing going on. Had these lying around so added a splash of colour and inserted a little set of exclusive hand sprayed dodgyness.
Edition: framed 'BSF' specials - one of each Media: hand cut & sprayed stencils Paper: Fabriano 280gsm Marks: Signed, dated plus 'BSF' Size: 8"x10" approx. (frame 9"x11") @ £15.00 each including frame*
* frames are un-conservation standard with normal glass

Selfishges&Co Departmental Stall is CLOSED, by Agent Provocateur on Sept 15, 2010 18:48:59 GMT 1, Not sure yet Wiz, the sweat shop seems to have got the order number wrong and they're limited to 1 at the moment. Might have to do a little competition and see how many people really want it!!!!
On a sad note, I'm afraid another supplier has given me bad news today, we were hoping to hand out free stall 'Disloyalty Cards' on the day of the launch, but they're not going to be ready
I'll try sort something out... as my old grandpappy once said 'what doesn't kill you will probably chafe a bit'.
