Banksy's ex-Gallerist talks about their breakup..., by curiousgeorge on Oct 13, 2010 11:18:55 GMT 1, Not sure if this is on topic or not, but what does it mean if someone buys at source and has genuine reasons for selling and the best price they achieve is roughly 30-40% of the original price
Is the genuine market price what it achieves on secondary market or the price at source?

Banksy's ex-Gallerist talks about their breakup..., by Daniel Silk on Oct 13, 2010 11:25:00 GMT 1, Yeah, very true! there are Galleries, and then there are galleries. There are galleries, and there are people who buy prints and sell them at inflated prices. If they were selling them via the forum they'd be 'flippers' but instead they're 'online galleries'...
Yeah, I think we have seen a few people in the scene move in that direction

Banksy's ex-Gallerist talks about their breakup..., by Daniel Silk on Oct 13, 2010 11:29:38 GMT 1, Just thinkin,
What differences have we seen since Banksy has taken more control?
Less print releases?
Could the future release of the film be one of the reasons why they went their separate ways? But then Steve is interviewed in the film

Banksy's ex-Gallerist talks about their breakup..., by wizzy on Oct 13, 2010 11:32:41 GMT 1, CG, i would say the market price is whatever the market dictates at the time of sale whether a profit or a loss is made. Having said that all sorts can affect market price like Hype / Bad or good press / economy / need to sell quick etc etc, loads of factors (also whether its good or bad Artwork), one person can sell for 500 whereas the same work can be found elsewhere like a Gallery for ten times the amount, as an example just look over Nick Walkers past sales or works offered on here or at auctions then check out John Brandlers Nick Walker prices for comparable original works.

Less big ticket prices at auction springs to mind, though how much of that is to do with economic climate is anyones guess
I also think the film would have been waaaay down the list of reasons why

What I was getting at was do you think Banksy have been forced to give Steve a big chunk of the film profits?

All true.. If i may use Herakut as an example I'm not aware of any secondary sales that went over cost price, although I'm not an avid stat man just going on what i see on forums
Does that mean they are overpriced at source? Sorry to use these as an example, plenty more other artists in same boat. And guessing this situation does them no favours??

Hahaha tell me about it !, been attempting to move my two Herakuts on at cost for over 12 months, nothing wrong just fed up. Im not aware either of any of their works fetching more than cost secondary, dont know what the deal with their cut is from the different Galleries but i can speak for Frankie by saying he has always played straight and fair with me and so i assume he played fair with them, i know he did with Case when he showed there. As for other Gallerists who knows? i wouldnt think they will come on and tell us their profit margin though.

Banksy's ex-Gallerist talks about their breakup..., by manty on Oct 13, 2010 19:16:57 GMT 1, I think if street artists spent more time doing what they should be doing which is prettying up our streets than focusing on galleries etc the better for them
Cheap advertising hitting the streets
