L’Atlas 🇨🇵 Street Art • New Print Release • Art For Sale, by Prescription Art on Nov 17, 2008 13:07:49 GMT 1, I saw those prints in Paris... I can't believe they're selling for that price - that's an extraordinary bargain. The prints are beautiful.
Thanks for posting the link, and also the picture of the Genova compass. It's the second one he's done, after putting this together (with the help of 500 people) at the Pompidou earlier this year.
Can I just urge everyone here to take a minute to look through the 'Walls' section on L'Atlas' website? The guy is the absolute cream of the crop.
Il Trifoglio Nero are also publishing a lavish 150 page book to accompany his exhibition there:

L’Atlas 🇨🇵 Street Art • New Print Release • Art For Sale, by Daniel Silk on Apr 18, 2011 14:29:21 GMT 1, Skalitzers presents the first solo exhibition in Berlin of prolific Parisian urban artist, L’ATLAS.
L’ATLAS | ‘Punitions’ Sat 30th April 2011 – Sat 28th May 2011
Opening Fri 29th April 2011, 19-22h
Seeking a universal form of urban communication, L'ATLAS invents a new language for global mega-cities, a language of signs as much as words. Beginning with the tag in the early 1990s, L’ATLAS went on to study Arabic calligraphy with classic and modern masters in Morocco, Egypt and Syria, taking particular inspiration from traditional Kufic calligraphy – the oldest calligraphic form of the Arabic scripts. The artist’s work has evolved towards a nameless writing which unites elements of painting and the tag with calligraphy. The rectangular shapes of the Kufic script are applied to the Latin alphabet to create his own typography, in which he writes his name as a labyrinth. Within his script, each shape is a letter, and each letter a shape - making each message both enigmatic and aesthetic.
Using the city as both a canvas and source, L’ATLAS works across a number of mediums including tape, spray paint and ink in his labyrinths, compasses, ‘ground print system’ series on manhole covers, ‘wandering canvases’ and classic tags.
La Punition (or Punishment in english) is a practice of graffiti to repeat indefinitely one’s name on a train or a wall. The form originated in the Parisian Metro at the beginning of the 1990s and subsequent artists have continued the practice. The term references the punishing of the surface, filling it with maximum impressions to erase the blank void and satisfy the space, and the punishments taken as a child, obliged to write lines on the school blackboard.
In ‘Punitions’, the artist presents a series of paintings inspired by the punishments of contemporary graffiti and the traditional form of Kufic calligraphy.
L’ATLAS’ work has been shown in galleries, festivals and collections around the world including London, New York, Berlin, Rome, New Delhi, Moscow, Beijing and Paris, with notable features at the Grand Palais, Fondation Cartier and Centre Georges Pompidou.
Join us with the artist for the opening night on Friday 29th April, including a live sound performance by TANC and dance performance by Lorenzo de Angelis.
