Where to buy Takashi Murakami Prints?, by nobokov on Sept 19, 2016 17:46:14 GMT 1, Does everyone like Murakami's images or is it bought purely for investment purposes? His prints are a lot of fun and quite nice if you'd like to decorate a child's room but I would never buy one as an investment. When you put it like that, I think I get the appeal.

Where to buy Takashi Murakami Prints?, by nobokov on Sept 19, 2016 18:10:27 GMT 1, Does everyone like Murakami's images or is it bought purely for investment purposes? some of his images are pretty amazing when seen in person. Like all artists (IMO) he is hit and miss. BUT I know a few people who think Murakami can do no wrong. As a rule I never buy art as an investment. I've seen many people say that they never buy art as an investment, but isn't the investment appeal considered at all in your mind? I just wonder if that's a maxim that's only spoken by those are very well off financially and kudos if you're at the stage in life that allows you to think that way. (no sarcasm intended)
I just have a feeling that most people don't agree with that philosophy, otherwise there wouldn't be so much conversation on this forum about price, creases, screenprint vs glicee, etc. Wouldn't there be more conversation interpreting the meaning of specific artwork? I understand if someone purchased an unsigned Murakami poster for a kid's room for $10, but to spend that much on what looks to be anime flower drawings, it baffles me if investment value isn't considered.

I'm not speaking for others, but I don't buy for investment because that can be a dangerous (financial) road to take. If I buy something because I like / love it than the investment potential is a nice side benefit, but it had nothing to do with why I bought it.
I own plenty of art that cost me a decent sum that does not necessarily have a lot of investment potential. I was raised by a parent who made a living dealing with collectibles, if it was about investment potential, I have better options than art.

Where to buy Takashi Murakami Prints?, by Morfx on Sept 19, 2016 18:58:03 GMT 1, I live in a 1 bed shoe box... I buy pieces I like purely for the art, not as an investmet.. I'm at a stage in my life where I work to live.. But I like "pretty"stuff (not in a gay kinda way)
Waking up of a weekend, cuppa tea in hand, looking at my walls... Traded in my prints for Originals..
Sara Popes, Pure evil, Dface (lenticular) Gemma Compton, Mason Storm, Pahnl, Replete, Alex face, Mue Bon and my box of Jimmys tricks...
For that hour in the morning I feel free.......................

Where to buy Takashi Murakami Prints?, by Pavoni on Sept 25, 2016 6:00:33 GMT 1, I love much of Murakami, his work and his general outlook. When he was young in Japan he survived by approaching convenience stores for their past-sale-date boxed lunches and so on.
A problem I have with buying the prints is they are cheap-looking, offset litho print process with some small text printed along the bottom, looking very much like posters.

Where to buy Takashi Murakami Prints?, by Happy Shopper on Sept 25, 2016 10:56:35 GMT 1, From what I've seen in galleries the larger prints with metallic inks look much better quality that the smaller prints. Hard to see the difference online!

I have a flowerball and it is one of the best prints I've ever seen in terms of production

I agree they are usually not shabby at all, have 2 Kai Kai Ki Ki produced DOB which are very good quality, not remotely close to poster technique or paper.
They are indeed mass produced, but chances of a good OG at affordable price are slim. Indeed the ones that have the writing can be visually a bit odd

Where to buy Takashi Murakami Prints?, by avec art on Sept 25, 2016 15:06:42 GMT 1, They're quite difficult to capture well in a photograph, but they look beautiful. Here's my Hommage to Monogold B, and I'm currently looking for a lot less than Mr Perrotin for it. The background to the flowers is a reflective metallic silver.

Where to buy Takashi Murakami Prints?, by jluhiex on Jan 4, 2017 19:53:25 GMT 1, Here are 3 Murakami prints I purchased off an auction. I should've taken more care in looking at the condition as the colors on 2 of the prints have been damaged from UV exposure. Not sure if it's repairable or even worth it to fix.

It might be worth checking with a professional restorer. Where are you based?

Where to buy Takashi Murakami Prints?, by superbry11 on Feb 27, 2017 18:40:35 GMT 1, I just had mine framed, and it looks amazing. Don't know if some see it as cheap but this is not one cheap print and not just a decoration for a kids room.
Just look at the colour of the actual print, it gives me positive vibes just by staring at it.

I have a circular murakami print, definitley not cheap in any way.
