Paintings I've been doing of L8, by Danny O'Connor on Sept 7, 2010 19:35:50 GMT 1, Thanks for the comments. Wiz, Francis Bacon is an inspiration to me especially with my more stylistic/abstract portraits so I guess he's influenced quite a few pieces I've done, but this is the only one with such a direct reference to his work.
mikte, All the works are painted using acrylic emulsion spraypaint and blackboard paint. They do have a look of charcoal pieces as I kind of treat the paint the same way smudging it in with my fingers before it dries. Plus the blackboard paint has a deep matte finish similar to that of charcoal.
Simon, the square pieces are mini 8x8 inch canvases the rest are about A4 size and the bottom 2 are larger about 25x20inches.

Again working with more colour. A bit larger than A3 this one. I'll keep adding these smaller works as and when untill everyone gets bored of this thread

Paintings I've been doing of L8, by Danny O'Connor on Sept 17, 2010 12:20:10 GMT 1, Right a couple more portraits to show. The first is me again, Based on the previous piece of my good self earlier in the thread. Much more layering on this version and a decent size 30x30inches/76x76cm
Next up another piece on canvas measures 24x24inch/60x60cm titled "Shattered Dreams" hints of the sketchier raw line quality I've talked about on my other thread.
Be good to hear your thoughts

Paintings I've been doing of L8, by Danny O'Connor on Sept 17, 2010 13:22:12 GMT 1, Hey Fingerz, Most of the smaller works are sold, but there are a few bits still available in my store. I plan to exhibit the 2 canvases in a Gallery as part of the Liverpool Biennial next week. I try and update my store with new stuff when I can so might be worth a nose now and again docart.bigcartel.com/
If you're interested in the canvases drop me a PM and I can give you some info on the gallery.

Paintings I've been doing of L8, by Danny O'Connor on Oct 13, 2010 11:52:16 GMT 1, A variation on the previous piece I painted a few days ago. A bit less stylized and more of a tonal piece allowing the background to peer through more.

Going into abstraction on this piece. Has a kind of psychedelic vibe going on.
Painted this for Mooch's new Basement Gallery in Manchester. This was taken before it got mounted on the outside wall above those shutters. I'll post a pic of it in situ when I get one. It's pretty big, almost 12 feet wide!
Thanks to Christina (Gallery Manager) for the photograph!

Brilliant. Love this style of yours (although I don't think the little holes in the board do this piece any favours especially). Wish we had some space to hang more of your art. I know the time will come when we do grab some more of your work but in the meantime I love seeing the new elements you're incorporating into your work all the time. Some of the portraits above are spot on, especially the latest ones before this more abstract piece.. But it always seems to be these more abstract images and/or the geometrically oriented pieces that most draw my eye though. Always love seeing your artwork, both in person and online. It seems to have an enduring quality about it that I just don't tire of. Keep it up mate.
