Burning Candy - Sartorial Art Gallery - Feb 3rd, by shower on Feb 3, 2011 20:09:57 GMT 1, Today I came across a link to a new show opening at Sartorial Art. Titled "IT'S TIME TO GO I HAVE NO MORE BREAST", the show comprises of work by some of London's most infamous street artists - the original Burning Candy - Sweet Toof, Cyclops and Tek 33.
However it must be noted that while Gretta Sarfaty "is offering visitors one final chance to view these influential works, and even own a piece of contemporary art history for themselves" it must be noted that all the work on display, and for sale, goes against the wishes of the artists involved.
A little birdy has informed me that all proceeds will go solely to the gallery with the artists recieving nothing. And as result none of the artists have given their permission for the work to be sold, let alone be displayed!
So just a word of warning, by all means go and appreciate the stunning work but some of London's finest artistic vandals, but please dont line the pockets of the gallery as the artists who have actually produced the work will not benefit!
For those interested, here is the show info...

Burning Candy - Sartorial Art Gallery - Feb 3rd, by Happy Shopper on Feb 7, 2011 17:05:08 GMT 1, So where did the work come from if they didn't give permission? Is it just a show of secondary market pieces? If so, does anyone ever give "permission" for that???

Burning Candy - Sartorial Art Gallery - Feb 3rd, by shower on Feb 7, 2011 18:01:23 GMT 1, Just to clear up a point or two. Yes the work is secondary market pieces but many of the pieces were gifts and many were 'lost' by the gallery and have now appeared for sale. This is in addition to a few that were bought by the gallery.
And with regard to permission. As it is secondary market pieces, I suppose a gallery does not have to ask but its common custosy to at least inform an artist, or in this case 3 artists, that their name and work is being used for a show.
Im not saying that the gallery stole all the artwork, but much was aquired through deception. By all means go and enjoy the show. I just felt people should be informed about how the show came to be put together and the fact none of the artists have any direct involvement at all.

Burning Candy - Sartorial Art Gallery - Feb 3rd, by shower on Feb 7, 2011 19:56:01 GMT 1, Its a long story and there was a legal battle. I know bits and pieces but lets leave it there and just appreciate the fact that while the gallery is a bit of a bad egg, the artwork produced by the 3 original BC members is exceptional!
