'This Is Forever' - Timothy Karpinski & Dan-ah Kim, by Thinkspace on Apr 3, 2011 22:16:21 GMT 1, Inside Timothy Karpinski's Portland, OR studio as he prepares for 'This Is Forever' opening April 9th (showing alongside Dan-ah Kim)
While out in Portland I swung by Timothy Karpinski's studio and took a whole mess of pics of his half of 'This Is Forever' coming to life.
Timothy's process is so time intensive and delicate, I wanted to try and document as much of it as possible. From drawing out the piece to help get the vibe of how it will look once finished, through to doing detailed drawings of each individual element cutting out every single element in each piece, to then hand-painting each piece individually (including the sides) with upwards of 3-5 coats of paint each to achieve his 'flat' no brush stroke look, on to assembling all the final pieces until the composition sings to him, on through to the final stage of setting them in place within their frame. Tiny and delicate and filled with emotion, Karpinski's work is a window into his soul.
