CHARITY ART - EARTHQUAKE RELIEF, by sal on Apr 29, 2011 11:04:04 GMT 1,
Although the situation in Japan has faded from the headlines, help is still needed. So the guys over at C3 added several new Koi designs for you to download with a donation. If you haven't donated, it's never too late. If you have, they are asking for your support again.

New 18" x 24" cover stock lithograph featuring a screenprinted in metallic gold ink, with Yoskay Yamamoto's artwork, is now available at LinkinPark's website.
"Taiyo: the sun", gocco print with spray paint was originally created to raise funds on his blog. Then the image was used to promote linkin park's benefit concert in August which they raised over $350k. And now it's raising even more money in a form of lithograph/poster, making it one of the most recognizable images of all the Japan tsunami charity efforts.
All the proceeds from this item is going towards the survivor of the earth quake.

CHARITY ART - EARTHQUAKE RELIEF, by sal on Dec 19, 2011 20:19:10 GMT 1, oh my.. this is quite shocking:
Japan's Antarctic whaling fleet has left port on its annual hunt, seeking to kill 900 minke whales and 50 fin whales for what it claims are 'scientific research' purposes. (The meat from the hunt is sold commercially.)
The hunt, already controversial, has attracted greater ire from critics with an admission by the Japanese government that it is using funds earmarked for earthquake and tsunami reconstruction to subsidize the fleet's operations.
Greenpeace accused the government of diverting 2.28 billion yen (US$30m) from the earthquake recovery fund to help pay for this year's hunt.

CHARITY ART - EARTHQUAKE RELIEF, by speebe on Dec 19, 2011 21:42:30 GMT 1, Is it wrong that I quite fancy eating some whale meat... I just want to know what all the fuss is all about. I can't believe that funds for the Tsunami are being misused though. Fin whales are an endangered species.
There are plenty of cultures which are allowed to hunt endangered species as it's part of their cultural heritage... it's only because Japan is such an advanced culture that we are shocked at the apparent lack of understanding; why is this viewed so differently... because it's done with that knowledge?
I agree endangered species shouldn't be hunted but if there is plentiful stock (?) then why should they give up something so engrained in their culture.
Most Japanese below the age of forty would never eat whale meat... with time attitude and demand will change but an annual hunt may continue.

CHARITY ART - EARTHQUAKE RELIEF, by speebe on Dec 19, 2011 22:23:57 GMT 1, I agree endangered species shouldn't be hunted but if there is plentiful stock (?) There is not plentiful stock.
If that's the case then why have Europeans hunted and killed more whales than Japan in the past three years... but that rarely causes concern...?
Despite being illegal to bring it into the UK you can buy it at the airport in Iceland...?
www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/jun/19/whaling-europe-japan?INTCMP=ILCNETTXT3487
'Europe plans to hunt more whales than Japan for the first time in many years, dividing EU countries and dismaying conservationists who say that whaling is escalating in response to the worldwide recession.
Figures seen by the Guardian before a meeting of more than 80 countries next week, show that Norway, Denmark and Iceland propose to hunt 1,478 whales compared to Japan's 1,280 in 2009. This would be an increase of nearly 20% by Europe on last year.
"Europe likes to point the finger at Japan as a rogue whaling nation but Europeans are killing whales in increasing numbers in their own waters. Europe has become whale enemy number one", said Kate O'Connell, campaigner for the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society (WDCS).'

CHARITY ART - EARTHQUAKE RELIEF, by sal on Mar 6, 2012 13:22:13 GMT 1, on Sunday, 11.3.2012, it's gonna be one year anniversary since the massive earthquake that hit Japan, causing catastrophic tsunami, and nuclear disaster in Fukushima..
in order to remind people about this horrible event, I've decided to auction an original Yoskay Yamamoto drawing, with 100% of proceeds going to Japanese Earthquake & Tsunami Relief Fund (Global Giving):
the drawing is 17x12cm unframed, done with ballpoint pen and white chalk/crayon(?) on blue paper, and is currently framed without using any tape or adhesives (can be removed from the frame for easier/cheaper shipping)..
I received the drawing as a thank you present from Yoskay, for helping him with his charity efforts, and after enjoying it for a year, and being a nice reminder that I did something to help, Im willing to part with it and let it continue it's good deed...
so, if you're fan of Yoskay's work, this is a chance to own an original artwork from him with a 100% guilt free purchase!
here is the eBay auction page >
thanks for your support!
on Sunday, 11.3.2012, it's gonna be one year anniversary since the massive earthquake that hit Japan, causing catastrophic tsunami, and nuclear disaster in Fukushima.. in order to remind people about this horrible event, I've decided to auction an original Yoskay Yamamoto drawing, with 100% of proceeds going to Japanese Earthquake & Tsunami Relief Fund (Global Giving): the drawing is 17x12cm unframed, done with ballpoint pen and white chalk/crayon(?) on blue paper, and is currently framed without using any tape or adhesives (can be removed from the frame for easier/cheaper shipping).. I received the drawing as a thank you present from Yoskay, for helping him with his charity efforts, and after enjoying it for a year, and being a nice reminder that I did something to help, Im willing to part with it and let it continue it's good deed... so, if you're fan of Yoskay's work, this is a chance to own an original artwork from him with a 100% guilt free purchase! here is the eBay auction page >thanks for your support!
