Modern Design - Urban Art, by guest2 on Jan 11, 2008 18:53:31 GMT 1, hey Mutdog, love that picture shows the inevatable frustration of self assemble furniture, are you realy using that pizza cutter to put together your furniture and Frankie that is a great little group of style you got there, they go together very well, love all the pieces on show i could do with a side unit to store all my lounge stuff , controls, discs, mags etc.. and the bur walnut pieces with chrome ,,mmmm very nice good thread this , i am after a chair and stool at the mo barcalona, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, or Le Corbusier, would love and Eames lounge chair and stool. e Have you looked at the plycraft lounge chair by George Mulhauser, great chair and they can be picked up pretty cheaply on ebay.
I prefer the wallnut eames timelife stool in the background. Pycraft also produce the cherner chair which is a lovely chair.

Modern Design - Urban Art, by dslug on Jan 11, 2008 20:06:45 GMT 1, There are a few very special Eames pieces but on the whole its just mass produced alright office furniture. If you are going to collect furniture in a similar way to collecting art with a view to the item holding its value or rising then there are way better investments out there than Eames stuff.
Lots of people (and this is not directed to anyone here or this thread) know about Eames and talk about them like they invented good design. They certainly deserve their place in history and a certain amount of praise but there is an overhyping of them that exists that gets right up my chitpipe.

The rarer evans manufactured pieces are very collectable. One of my favourite designers has to be Alvar Aalto. I've had quite a few of their chairs but have only kept an early finmar stool and side table. But I'll definitely buy myself an ebonised chair 31 again one day.

Modern Design - Urban Art, by abel on Nov 16, 2010 7:50:08 GMT 1, Hi folks, I wanna share something. I was looking for a cool looking office chair for my renovated home office, wanted something of a designer look. Went to STAPLES and bought Rialto Office Chair yesterday, it's awesome. Aluminum frame, mesh seat, really great quality at a reasonable price. I did not even know, but when I had it at home, a friend mentioned that the design is from the famous CHARLES EAMES. I did not know STAPLES has such great product - it made my day and my new office!
