Apologies for the soppy thread. c

Proud Dad, by Karl Read on Sept 10, 2010 20:59:46 GMT 1, That's cool coach, very good handwriting for someone that age. A sign of artistic flare maybe? Just out of interest, how would you feel if he started doing illegal work in the streets? From my side I'd think it was cool but I'm not a dad. Just wondering your thoughts on it? Or anyone else who has kids for that matter.

Proud Dad, by v3rm33r on Sept 10, 2010 21:16:41 GMT 1, Brilliant post and A* for the homework - great handwriting, spelling and construction. You should be proud, I would be. My daughter started secondary school this week as well, her art homework was to find information about "Madonna with Child" by (Giovanni Battista Salvi da) Sassoferrato. I was quite impressed and asked if she had found much information about it yet, to which she replied "Not yet, all I know is that he painted famous Christmas Cards". I laughed, but it was a sad laugh. In her defence though, she did name our dog "Banksy" when she was eight

That's a really interesting question and one I have thought about. Obviously we both admire street art. I take him to lots of street art events and shows (upfest - he's been to all 3, whitecross street, most recently bedford street etc, and to plenty of galleries - banksy in bristol, faile at laz....the list goes on). We check out art on the street together. Would I want him doing illegal pieces, bearing all that in mind? My honest answer is that at the moment, no I would not. He is only 11. A lot of his interest is no doubt inspired by me. He may decide in a few years time that he has no interest in this. I hope not. But I dont want him getting in trouble until he is old enough to be responsible for his own actions an to be making all decisions for himself. Just a personal opinion of course, and maybe not a popular one. But there you go. Ask me again when he is 15 or 16!! Cheers c

Proud Dad, by Coach on Sept 10, 2010 21:35:47 GMT 1, Thanks mate. Its a difficult one though. The flip side of the coin is what Banksy has said about us all having to endure advertising, billboards etc, which we didnt ask for, so why not answer back. The streets are ours. But my view remains as per my earlier post. Cheers fella c

Proud Dad, by tomega on Sept 10, 2010 22:00:19 GMT 1, An excellent essay for one so young. Can see why you are so proud. Above all else, nice to hear that your art hobby doesn't take you away from your son. Clearly the opposite is true and that you are spending a lot of time together having same shared 'love of street art' experiences. When he gets older and goes his own way (which is inevitable) you'll have these wonderful memories of your time together and who knows in what way this experience may shape him - graff artist or graff writer of the future?
i have a 7yr old daughter and she knows i like art and she knows about Banksy. However, she doesn't yet fully understand what he does other than he produces artwork outside as well as for inside. if i am totally honest she first became familiar with Banksy due to her mother saying things like 'Where's your father? Don't tell me he's on the computer looking at something to do with Banksy' and the most common wife statement to daughter is 'Tell your father to stop looking at that blooming Banksy forum and tell him to take the bin out/take dog for a walk/cook the supper etc etc'.
Hope your boy picks up a nice piece tomorrow Coach. i had wanted to take my daugher but wife wants to do the Heritage Open Day in Cov instead. However, we will be at Herbert in October to catch the V & A street art exhibition.

Proud Dad, by RYCA on Sept 25, 2010 12:16:22 GMT 1, its nice to know that street/urban art has fans this young, this means that the scene will grow and develope, there must be thousands of young people/artists out there with some cool ideas...
these are potenially the future of this movement.

And thanks RYCA - means a lot coming from you too. And gestures like the giveaway print comp that he won - and your genorosity - certainly help keeps a young ones interest buzzing - he is still stoked to have recieved the print which added to his collection. Just like the treasure hunt that Pezlow's daughter enjoyed today. Its all good!
This is a little stencil that he cut today, and sprayed on our wheeliebin. Cut freehand. The background is the 8 from his 8 Mail tag. He has the bug!
