GERHARD RICHTER DONATES ART WORK TO RCA SECRET 2009
The Royal College of Art is pleased to announce that the German artist Gerhard Richter has donated work to the Collegeโs fundraising sale, RCA Secret, for the first time. RCA Secret 2009 dates announced, by pezlow on Oct 26, 2009 7:25:18 GMT 1, Various new contributor news. Some big names....
23 October: Gerhard Richter, Grayson Perry and Julian Opie are amongst the hundreds of artists to contribute to this year's RCA Secret event.
The Royal College of Art is pleased to announce that the German artist Gerhard Richter has donated work to the Collegeโs fundraising sale, RCA Secret, for the first time. His work will be displayed anonymously amongst hundreds of other postcards made by invited artists and designers at the RCA from 13 November. Over 200 artists have donated work to the event so far, including Grayson Perry, Julian Opie, Yoko Ono, Cornelia Parker, David Bailey, former Stone Roses guitarist John Squire, designer Ron Arad, as well as fashion designers Sir Paul Smith, Manolo Blahnik and Erdem. Many leading American artists have also contributed this year including Bill Viola, Lawrence Weiner, John Baldessari and Alex Katz.
RCA Secret is an annual contemporary art exhibition and sale consisting of original postcard-sized artworks, made and donated by professional artists, designers and illustrators, plus up-and-coming students from the Royal College of Art.
Whatโs the Secret? Each postcard is signed on the back, so buyers donโt know the identity of the artist until they have made their purchase. Postcards can be viewed in person at the RCA or on-line at www.rca.ac.uk/secret from 13-21 November. All postcards go up for sale on Saturday 21 November at the RCA.
Postcards can only be bought on a first come, first served basis, with no sealed bids or reservations in advance. There will also be a raffle for buyers to win a position in the first fifty places in the queue.
As in previous years all monies raised goes to the Royal College of Art Fine Art Student Award Fund. To date, sales of postcards have raised over ยฃ1 million for the Fund, helping hundreds of emerging artists at a formative stage in their careers.

RCA Secret 2009 dates announced, by Deleted on Nov 17, 2009 17:30:02 GMT 1, Pez - I've registered now and I've started ploughing through all the cards and building up a favourites list. Do you know how big the queues usually are and what time we should get there to be in with a chance of getting a couple?

There was a tent there when I went on Saturday. The queue on the day starts getting big early, the earlier you can get there the more likely you will get a chance to buy the ones you want.
Saying that you can turn up later in the morning and still buy, all be it from a depleted list and having stood outside for quite some time!
I reccommend buying a raffle ticket. Provided you don't get in front of me!
No Rego this year Pez, want to swap predictions for the Richter's instead!

RCA Secret 2009 dates announced, by chablis on Nov 17, 2009 22:13:59 GMT 1, I've been down there today during my lunch 2hour, most of that spent getting there and back. Got the raffle tickets so will wait to see if I get a call Friday evening.
I was lucky last year to get a call, but unlucky enough to be something like 46th in. I have previously queued, and that was over night in the fffffreezing cold and already hundreds back from the front. For anyone who has not done this before, you should try it once before you die, but probably just the once. It is hilarous watching people arrive at 6am or 7am to discover the queue is nearly around the building. At that point it is probably quicker going the other way round. Then once you are in you are trying to work out from the lists of numbers appearing on the TV's whats left available as it rapidly becomes clear that all your masterpieces have already been snapped up.
But otherwise it is a real laugh,I'm still learning to recognise the different artists styles which translates as most of the time I have not got a clue.
Good luck to anyone going.
