Yeah, the Paris Hilton thing did get loads of attention and probably got a whole new crowd of people into Banksy's work.

Oh Yes...now I see. That is clearly fine art. You're right, I'm a bit new to all this Banksy stuff, but you have put me right. Thank you

Now that would be - I personally love the street cleaner from Cans.

What next for Banksy?, by xtinaw on Jan 15, 2009 17:42:54 GMT 1, He needs to go back to his roots and get on the streets and shock us with some new work. I agree I'd also like to see more lithographs so we can all own a piece of his work! I would also love to wake up morning and find I have been sent a print/canvas by the man himself... a girl can dream! ha ha.

What next for Banksy?, by linkd95 on Jan 15, 2009 18:50:49 GMT 1, I agree with xtinaw I think that he should start doing editions of 1000 or Unlimited but they are all signed.
E.g When I first heard about the 'Tesco Print' i was really excited and really hoped it would be quite a large edition because come on lets face BASICALLY EVERYONE flip's Banksy prints so it would be nice for an image which we all like should be put as a print but EDITION OF 1000 and SIGNED which means that a lot of people can have one but ITS STILL SPECIAL COS ITS SIGNED.
You hear where im comin from?

What next for Banksy?, by jimbob68 on Jan 15, 2009 19:32:00 GMT 1, The NY work was IMO very very strong and despite the huge rats not being painted by the man himself (I don't have a problem with it) I thought tthey were some of the best street work he has done. Just because it knocked you out in scale. I would like to see the giant rats taking over other world cities and that is certainly something I would travel to see. The museum issue. I presume you mean big public collections? I know for a fact that there are several serious buyers who have been accumulating expensive street pieces in hope (they do have the right connections) of selling to such public collections in the future.

More fool them, no serious museum or gallery would buy a piece that the artist himself will not authenticate:
"Pest Control does not authenticate street pieces because Banksy prefers street work to remain in situ and building owners tend to become irate when their doors go missing because of a stencil." www.pestcontroloffice.com/whatispco.html

What next for Banksy?, by jimbob68 on Jan 15, 2009 20:02:53 GMT 1, I am not condoning it. It is how the public art world works. Museums have a long record of defending provenances that were later proven wrong. To the comment on the Turner Prize Lazarides is not in the chosen circle of favoured galleries, collectors and art writers yet. He is still considered an outside upstart. And that is not because of the presumed 'outsider' aspect of street art. His time might come though. He is a very good publicist and engineer of his specialised market area and money always seems to carry the day in the art world.

What next for Banksy?, by xtinaw on Jan 16, 2009 10:28:26 GMT 1, I think the Pet Store in NY was great don't get me wrong but I fear he is just going to be sticking to this kind of thing from now on. Although amazing in its own right it would be a shame if Banksy didn't do more graffitti on the street and pull some more cool pranks like the one at Disney for example.
I totally hear you pleaseletmejoin I doubt we would get our hands on them if he did that! I would definitely love to see an unlimited lithograph like the soup cans though. I'm so gutted I did not buy one when I had the chance on Pow. Back then I coulda got a rat for about ยฃ80 quid!! Arghhhh! Why couldn't I have been born with hindsight and got it despite not liking it that much??!!!! I'd have also bought Jamie Hewlett's Kid. Man I am dumb!!!

Why on earth would you want to buy something you don't like?
You can still get the soup can litho here for a mere ยฃ38.99.

As well as Soup Cans being quite easily available still, you can pick up the Barely Legal poster on ebay quite reasonably. It's smaller than his usual prints and looks great up close. I got one a few weeks ago for around ยฃ40 and was very pleasantly surprised by it!
I haven't seen the Cans Festival litho poster for sale much, but they're out there too. I still wonder what POW have done with them all!?

What next for Banksy?, by mike hunt on Jan 16, 2009 13:20:07 GMT 1, You are all talking absolute rubbish. I am actually a fully licenced mystic and I have read Banksys future. Banksy will fall in love with a spanish waiter called Miguel and emigrate to Marbella, where he will enjoy the occasional Gin & Tonic and open his own waterskiing school. He will drive an orange fiat and do yoga on thursdays. Eventually he will change his name to Jennifer.
