Either my Banksy was stolen or I was scammed, by cpo on May 30, 2009 14:42:43 GMT 1, Don't know what to think about this, but it sure seems shady to me.. the powerseller who never sent me the print (or gave me the print number to check it with Dora) changed his powerseller ebay name from ukcartellimited to dna-records.
At worst it was a scam from the beginning, though I got my money back through my own cc. At best, it was actually taken from the tube during shipping but this is highly unlikely and it doesn't excuse him shipping a very expensive print without insurance even though the buyer paid for it, and shipping it in a tiny single tube even though the buyer requested to double tube it for protection.
IMO, this was a scam from the beginning.

Either my Banksy was stolen or I was scammed, by Heavyconsumer on May 30, 2009 15:37:59 GMT 1, There's no doubt in my mind that this guy ripped you off CPO!!! Noone would send a print of this value so carelessly packaged and uninsured, especially overseas. You'd have to be a proper thicko to do something like that and it's highly unlikely. Also, he would not want the print to be worth anything to the person who stole it and would at the very least have reported the loss to POW himself, especially if there was a COA involved, let alone have given you the number. I'd threaten to talk to the fed's regarding his "attempted mail fraud" (a very serious offense in the USA), unless he hands over the print number! In your shoes, I'd get in touch with Dora and pass on any and all information I had about the guy, on the off chance that he does actually has any Banksy prints registered to him with PCO/POW (or is successful in buying one at source in the future). If it's lost/stolen, they would def' want to know that and ammend their records accordingly. (PCO exists to keep an ownership database and track valuable pieces of art - it's a question of responsibility to the artist as well as collectors and I'm certain they would want to be informed of any stolen/missing prints and made aware of the people involved)
To be honest, if someone screws me over I'm a vindictive bastard and I'd report him to the FBI in his area for mail fraud, even if I had already cancelled the payment with my CC company. He deserves a sample of the stress you've suffered and perhaps (if it was the 1st time he's tried it) he'll think twice next time.

Either my Banksy was stolen or I was scammed, by lobster on May 30, 2009 16:28:23 GMT 1, Glad you got your money back mate and as you say you were lucky you had a good relationship with your card company otherwise it could have got VERY messy.
I have bought a lot of signed Banksys this year and almost all were initially on Ebay. All I do is send a private message to the seller basically saying do they fancy doing a deal for cash etc then arrange to meet up.Obviously not great for ebay but lets face it i dont think they have a cash flow problem (!!) - always insist on the PC cert and you really can`t go wrong.Invariably the people you then meet are decent , chilled out guys and who is not going to prefer cash to money in their paypal account ?
The guy you bought this off is obviosuly a complete dog and lets hope he doesn`t scamm anyone else.

Either my Banksy was stolen or I was scammed, by curiousgeorge on May 30, 2009 18:33:01 GMT 1, Is the number of the print known? this is now stolen property, if the number was known that would make it much harder for this to tried again on someone else

If he has been a naughty boy and you suspect him let these chaps look into it like Mr HeavyConsumer suggested.
Loks like an easy enough form to fill in. Fire and forget as they say.

Either my Banksy was stolen or I was scammed, by romanywg on May 31, 2009 12:11:03 GMT 1, I bought a camera lens on ebay recently and a couple days later thought I'd check the details again only to find out that the seller was no longer registered. Alarm bells started ringing but I had, and always do, paid by paypal so I was covered. Turns out he had conned over 100 people that day and scammed over ยฃ150,000! I got my money back within 10 days but most other people had paid by bank transfer so probably won't be so lucky.
