Buying from Self-representing artists., by Oliver Winconek on Jan 21, 2009 8:57:16 GMT 1, From my point of view, the main reason that I sell through galleries is two-fold, firstly if I didn't the promotional side of things would swallow my time and I wouldn't be able to create anywhere near as much Artwork, also I know for a fact that I wouldn't sell as much and would need to get a second job. I am always happy to talk to anyone and work things out, commissions etc but the eventual sale I leave up to the gallery for sheer ease

Buying from Self-representing artists., by Mike Marcus on Jan 23, 2009 12:32:37 GMT 1, If you do decide to go it alone, perhaps once you have the images ready, you could sell a proportion of the editions at a "special/lower" price through your blog, pre-production. It may cover the costs of production up front. People who are very interested in buying would surely appreciate the chance to do so at a discount, even if it meant wating an extra few weeks...?
I have been thinking about the idea of selling pre production prints and I'm almost certainly going to take that route. It gives me the funds to run the prints and gives people a chance to buy the work at a very good price so it helps everybody.
Thanks heavycomsumer for the tip

Buying from Self-representing artists., by Mike Marcus on Jan 24, 2009 14:00:28 GMT 1, not a bad idea. what are the prints of, or is that a secret at the mo??
My exogamy #2 series (see my blog for more details).
4 editions of 20x16 inch silver gelatine prints hand printed by myself in the darkroom from a digital internegative. Each edition consists of 85 prints + 4 selenium toned AP's.
The edition size is intentionally large. Fine art photography prints are normally released in editions of 4-8. I am doing this to keep the price very low and enable ordinary people to afford them even though times are tough.
There will be an accompanying release of 33 unique wheatpasted street pieces, one in each of the London boroughs.
I'm happy to finally be able to share this information. I have been working my ass of on this series over the past few months and I consider it to be my best work to date. This release is indicative of a new direction for me, marrying my street art and fine art photography careers into one unified practice.
I'm very excited.
Edit: I have now announce the preproduction sale. Info can be found here: urbanartassociation.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=31945
