Get your Art out If you feel worthy of a red star, by womble on Dec 24, 2008 2:05:48 GMT 1, Following on from James Bakers very brave, well composed & extremely valid post regarding artists on these boards. Which was a great discussion until Hero played his 'pity ole me' card & took his ball home
Then lets throw down the gauntlet.
Silky how many people on here have had a red star?
Silky can anyone just place a request to you for a red star & you automatically dish one out, or do you censor them before awarding a star?
Get your art out if you have a red star. Don't be shy, if you enjoy the kรบdos of a red star then post your work & show your talent (or lack of). This is not a witchunt maybe even a chance to have a sticky for red tops.
Please take this seriously and firstly address the questions above
Merry Xmas & Peace

Get your Art out If you feel worthy of a red star, by graeme501 on Dec 24, 2008 9:21:33 GMT 1, the lack of serious response from the two artists already hints at being a bit worried about posting work up for disscussion and critic
replete - if ur so deserving of a red star like u say, then post some work up and let other people decide, ive seen some of ur work, and its good, so i would say yes
stickee - ive never seen anything other than that two face merge from u, but ive seen it alot, would like to see some different work if u have any?

As an artist he has also raised money for charity!Lets not start hinting at who deserves one and who dosen't that wasn't the point of the thread, it was if you as an individual thought you were worthy!

Get your Art out If you feel worthy of a red star, by moleman on Dec 24, 2008 9:52:27 GMT 1, As you stated you have seen repletes work before and its very good and deserves the star even though as he said if didnt ask for it. For those who have been on here a while and thats not me you will know the artist of old. I think its aimed at the newer boys and girls possiblly of the ยฃ50 thread. At the end of the day when you have been here a while you all think i could try this and some of up have if you wanna buy it its up to you. The red star should be reserved and silky should say how they got it. I would not buy any thing i could do. But dont forget its xmas people are drinking and having fun

Get your Art out If you feel worthy of a red star, by womble on Dec 24, 2008 11:06:28 GMT 1, The lack of a serious response (other than Graeme & Jellya) is very disappointing.
I wasn't asking members of the forum to be judge and jury over who is or isn't worthy of a red star. To start with that would be nonsense as it is not for members to play that role.
It was more of an opportunity for an amnesty on the whole subject.
It was also a question (yes indirectly to Silky) to explain to us what criteria is used when dishing out these stars seem to me all too easily attainable.
It was also a chance to perhaps make this a sticky thread for artists with stars to post their work for all to see, experience & give CONSTRUCTIVE feedback if an artist requested.
Whilst it is easy for Replete to take the piss as he has & has had his work in the public arena for some time and his work selling/sold through numerous galleries so it's a easy call awarding him a star. Please do not b**ch that this is nonsense because I do not for one minute think that gallery affiliated or exhibiting work makes someone worthy of a title. I'm sure that anyone with half a brain realises yours was not bestowed on request.
Stickee your response I find more disappointing & depressing as personally I feel it was an opportunity to enlighten & introduce me to work other than a rehash of the same tired you've been peddling for the last 6 months plus, and the only image for sale on your cartel shop.
Sorry to use the two artists above as examples but it just happens to have perfectly highlighted my questioning.
If possible I'd now like to throw this open to Silky to enlighten us to his process in awarding red stars as I feel it is a dangerous & unhealthy for one person to be judge and jury.
For all the red tops please step up to the plate and show the forum your work if you wish (assuming you have a red star because you want your work in the public domain).
Please people positive or negative make it CONSTRUCTIVE.
Seasons greetings to all x

Dude, if people want to get their willies out and shake em in your face that's their business, I for one don't do that kind of a thing, and most people who do this for 'a living' aren't going to want or need to prove anything to anyone on here... most of the artists have websites and or flickrs as their signatures, just check those of your curious...

I think your right, alot of the guys I collect or collected i found through here or the other forums that shall not be named
For me it would be great to have a 'new artist' or similar thread
I looked through the 12 days of Christmas pics last night, and there was a real mix of stuff, and I hadnt heard of 80% of these guys.
So yeah rather than clogging the main board and wondering how to get your art seen, maybe this is a way ?
Doesnt help with the 'how do people get their red star ' question though
I shall delete my flippant posts from earlier

Get your Art out If you feel worthy of a red star, by Deleted on Dec 24, 2008 11:24:42 GMT 1, Womble... FYI: I think you can just ask Silky for a red star.. I thought the most people on here know that.. For that, it's on your own to decide how serious you take a red star. There is no discussion about the fact that not all the artist are talented as much as picasso, but they can see themselves as an artist. Can anyone say they arent? Can you say the arent? It would be very arrogant to do so. If someone puts all his effort and time in his art, and it turns out that 99% of the people (for example forum members) think its crap, thats a pity for the artist but he will still see himself as an artist. IMO it's not a question for the audience to judge whether someone is an artist but a question for the artist himself.
besides that: you are a relative new member on this forum and to me it appears to be that almost every comment you give here is a negative one. Why is that? Let us know what is the art you love and why you love it, that would be great to know and maybe you can introduce us to some new artists.
peace!

I am sorry mate but this is an awful thread IMO and I don't really want to be associated with it. No one needs to prove anything to anyone. I think the red star thing is just a bit of fun. I don't wear mine on my jumper down Tescos. I really can't see how this thread is progressive in any way. I regret mine it was genuinely made with good intention and was obviously not very well atticulated as that did not seem to come across. My concerns are of preserving the board and attracting new members to help current artists that use it. The response though showed that many people are quite happy with artists posting their work in the main bit so be it. I fear although some may regard my thread as 'brave', if this is the response and having had PMs from various other artists and members, then I believe it was more ill concieved, self important and rather dumb.
Anyway, enough. Good Luck to all fellow forum artists in 2009 and have a brilliant New Year.

Get your Art out If you feel worthy of a red star, by stickee on Dec 24, 2008 12:01:20 GMT 1, Sorry for posting a few fun pics last night (after quite a few beers ) Just don't see the point of having this seperate thread to see if people are worthy or not? Silky gives them out as he sees fit, agreed that some peoples work is not that great but to some I am sure that the little star means a lot to them and will spur them on to further themselves.......
As for my stuff, what is wrong with having a theme? boring? maybe.....fair enough I can think of lots of artists that base a whole career around one image and it hasnt done them any harm but 6 months is hardly a lifetime of banging out the same old dross, some people only do 1 new image a year!
I will post some pics on here for sure if its wanted, I just didnt wanna come across as a "self promoter" but as you guys have probably noticed I am on here for good times and to chat to people (and to get my stuff out and about) and in the six months of being on this forum I have exhibited in a couple of shows, organised my own painting festival and painted at others and currently have my work hung in a gallery and will have more work hung in other galleries in the coming weeks. So without sounding full of self importance (and anyone that has met me will know that I do not take anything seriously) I reckon the red star thingy aint a bad thing next to my name
Peace and merry crimbo

Get your Art out If you feel worthy of a red star, by dmf on Dec 24, 2008 12:01:58 GMT 1, The only way to achieve a red star is to by SELLING art. Strange concept as no concept of quality is taken into consideration. In essence a red star really means nothing
