I would like to see more Ironic art?, by artdivision on Jul 22, 2008 21:49:38 GMT 1, I agree, I don't see Irony in Faile's work at all? Just very stylized, beautiful pieces. Or Blek, not obviously Ironic artworks if you ask me. I think the fact there aren't many artist who have managed even one or two pieces, with a message as clever and punchy (let alone, the why didn't I think of that factor) as Banksy, is a credit to the man*!
*man / woman / people whatever

I would like to see more Ironic art?, by slowmo on Jul 22, 2008 22:02:14 GMT 1, none of this is ironic? Ironic art is cant believe you morons buy this s**t, but you know full well people will buy it. Why is a zombie traffic warden Ironic? Why is Mickey mouse in Iraq ironic? Or the queen wearing a gas mask?
Ironic is the bloke who set sail a no one, drunk himself to death in angst that no one liked his art on the journey, then arrived a famous ( but sadly dead) artist. Cant remember who it was.
I think perhaps poignant would be a better word for most of this type of art

I would like to see more Ironic art?, by jamesreeve5 on Jul 24, 2008 6:50:25 GMT 1, actually the majority of banksy's works fall under "satire" while his mainstream success is "ironic"

Brian Jones' stuff is great. He worked with the legendary Jamie Reid for years. It was Brian who did the 'Cultural Blackspot' street campaign with us a couple of years ago. There are a bunch of images at www.flickr.com/search/?q=cultural+blackspot&m=text
We still work with Brian. He took part in the Babylon Academy in Berlin (www.babylonacademy.com), and we have some exclusives at www.s-editions.co.uk.

I would like to see more Ironic art?, by doublehelix on Jul 24, 2008 13:01:19 GMT 1, I like the 'cultural blackspot' pieces. But ยฃ200 for a litho seems quite expensive. I think I'll rustle one up myself, I'm in Huddersfield it would be very fitting for the area!
