10 grand to drop on art, by pezlow on Nov 14, 2007 11:03:46 GMT 1, If you are looking to hang on the wall then I really don't see what is wrong with buying what you like. If you are buying for long term investment then I wouldn't advise buying many works from artists in this scene at the moment as they are all overpriced.
For ยฃ10k you can get a decent Patrick Heron original at auction (his prices have really dropped recently) or alternatively a smallish piece by Terry Frost or by Sandra Blow. These artists were the leaders of the St Ives school of abstract painting. Alternatively you could get a francis bacon print or maybe a small bridget riley. Or how about a Sol Lewitt piece? Mary Fedden is another good bet. All of these artists have a long track record. Their place in modern and contemporary art history is assured. That is what I would be investing in.
