Hugh Flipping Grant, by gozgoz on Nov 15, 2007 0:06:42 GMT 1, Out of interest. What would his tax bill on that be? 40% of ยฃ9,000,000? no tax at all probably. its a chattel. possibly one of the reasons alot of rich russians and chinese people are buying into art in a big way also.
yeah if theres a market to ensnare, it would be the chinese market. i did a couple of deals for chinese clients and they paid my firm in cold hard cash... it was severely dodgy but it was all real dollarbills. its just cos the country has expanded so fast and so quickly, the construction industry especially are making so much money at such a breakneck speed that its bewildering... so u have all these chinese people walking around with wads of cash and nowhere to spend it... so thats why u have LV and Gucci opening up even in the smallest of chinese provinces because theres so much money in the market... i could go on on this topic but i'll leave runningdog to fill u in on info from the internet geekdom.
ok hold all your negs there, i am NOT implying what i do is earning lotsa cold hard cash and im not implying that what im doing is putting lotsa of that chinese cold hard cash in my pocket!
and im not being racist too cos im oriental!
ok ive got myself covered there, yah?

Hugh Flipping Grant, by pw on Nov 15, 2007 1:06:29 GMT 1, I've been trying to find some answers to the question of tax on the sale of art. I was under the impression that any sale with a profit over the amount ยฃ6,000 falls into capital gains tax hence the 40% bracket. I probably am wrong but would appreciate any advice on the subject..
i think you might be right actually. theres definately something about ยฃ6000. possibly the full 40% capital gains tax is applicable on anything above ยฃ6k. maybe he should have waited until 6th april next year to sell when capital gains drops to 18%!

I volunteer campaigning for the rights of lesbians from Minority Ethnic Groups with Disabilities who wish to write poetry in Croatian. Can I have some respect points?
