I'm pissed., by Deleted on Nov 1, 2007 22:32:27 GMT 1, Ok, I'm back. For clarification, it was someone who I thought was a friend through the forums and emailed me on my private email. He honestly thinks that they will sell for more, hence the "favor". I think from his perspective he was doing me a favor and didn't realize that getting 3 (if he indeed has that many) was a bad thing. Out of respect to him (as he did help me get a Faile print recently), I'm not going to out him. But, I won't be dealing with him again. Thanks for listening to my sad story...

Werent we getting offered guaranteed ways to secure prints from the techno-boys???...and I dont mean the vicks and whistle ones before the trolley release

I'm pissed., by finsburyparkranger on Nov 1, 2007 23:48:21 GMT 1, As a point of interest I wonder if when banksy was partying hard in squat's and protest party's in his early days he would have given two s**ts about breaking some bourgeoisie art collectors code of ethics to help pay for a period of time being a full time activist and hell raiser without having to paint some rich bastards house again to pay for it.
Incessantly concerning ourselves with the bourgeoisie ethics behind our consumer culture and spreading hate when they are broken because other people managed to buy more pieces of luxury art than ourselves may be missing the point.
I know its a b**ch not getting a banksy on a release, i've missed the last two times and it is a pisser but in the big scheme of things I think we should maintain some perspective.

I'm pissed., by airsine on Nov 2, 2007 0:03:14 GMT 1, As a general rule, anything done by a human using a web browser can be automatically done by a computer. This is how search engine 'spiders' work.
I don't think POW could check IP addresses for multiple purchases as many computers can share the same IP address behind a single Router, so in theory a 'computer geek' could have multiple virtual PC's checking repeatedly for the Banksy page to get updated which then activates a script to buy any prints that become available and automatically steps through the payment process with different credit card details.
The good news is that anyone here could probably get this system coded for less than an unsigned Banksy on ebay.
But before you start hunting through the Polish C++ forums for a friendly coder, we know that POW update their site a lot, and one tiny change could screw the whole process up - meaning no print.
The assumption that 'computer geeks' manage to get their hands on a lot of prints could be true, but that's probably more of a testament to the amount of time they spend infront of computers and their comparative freedom to customize their workplace computers to 'assist' them in the acquisition of prints rather than coding up the whole process from scratch.

I'm pissed., by dave313perry on Nov 2, 2007 0:13:57 GMT 1, I think its more likely they have an office job with a load of mates infront of a computer.
they missed the first release, which alerted them to the coloured release in which they grabbed all their mates in the office to refresh like mad until they were for sale - 3 in the office got them and he gave them a few hundred quid cash for doing fuck all - they could have been the boss and just told their staff to have a few hours off and get me a banksy!!
who knows - easily done if your in a position where you know for a fact there will be a banksy within the day, which we did after the first release, and you have a few mate or employees with computers!
thats my take anyways!!

Hewlett was supposed to be releasing his new print last December, that must be in the pipeline too.

This is really the most plausible answer... spot on Dave. You must remember, POW said it was going to release them in October... and since it hadn't been the entire month up to the 28th, it kinda narrowed it down so its likely people were lining up friends to keep an eye for the prints. When POW sent the email, the bun fight started, and staggering the prints out as B&W signed first, color second, and unsigned last, gave everyone and their brother time to have people order prints on their behalf. Mystic programmers and the like just isn't out there in the way people think it is and would like to blame it on, there were 100k people fighting over 1300 prints and it came down to luck of the draw and the edge of having the release drawn out and in the very end of the release time frame.
