Oliver Vernon / James Roper @ Joshua Liner 4/14/11, by JoshuaLinerGallery on Apr 11, 2011 21:14:25 GMT 1, Our next exhibits are with Oliver Vernon (Gallery I) & James Roper (Gallery II).
This will be Vernon's second solo exhibition with Joshua Liner Gallery and his first after relocating his studio from Brooklyn to Northern California.
'Sprung' will consist of new acrylic paintings which incorporate elements of his new local environment - hills, forests, rivers, wide open sky. The shift has intensified both the realist and abstract aspects of his work.
Sprung Acrylic on canvas 2011 66 x 107 in.
Minyon Acrylic on linen 2011 46 x 40 in.
Showing in Gallery II will be James Roper. This will be Roper's first solo exhibition with Joshua Liner Gallery as well as Roper's solo debut in New York. 'All and Nothing' consists of new acrylic on canvas paintings and several new works on paper. Among the acrylic on canvas paintings is Roper's newest series of works entitled 'Exvoluta'. The "characters" depicted in this series embody diety-like forms influenced by the imagery of Hindu gods, Christian saints, and comic-book Superheroes, all rendered in glorious material excess beyond the reach of the natural.
Exvoluta Whip Acrylic on canvas 2011 40 x 30 in.
F=-kx Graphite on paper 2011 17 x 12 in.
