Why are contemporary artists so lazy with printing, by Gentle Mental on Jun 17, 2011 0:06:55 GMT 1, yup...a guernica for me - not the gift shop offset of course - but a nice mega sized, rich thick 35 colour screen print. signed and approved by the man.
i wouldn't care if it was "originally made for canvas" or "made solely for print" - no difference to me - the image is king - that's my point.
do see your point on artist hand embellishing thing is a nice to have - but who wouldn't want an editioned stenciled print by banksy? but demand way outstripped supply - so we have to settle for ed of 500 screenprints -
yes and Banksy and Kaws are too lazy to do 500 stencils for 500 pounds each. And Bast and Bugs do do them - and good for them. But i think it's because the process is their thing - it's part of their journey...
Some artists are just not good at (or lazy to learn) the ancient craft of print making... that doesn't make their prints (made by people who can make good prints) less desirable. - is my other point.

Why are contemporary artists so lazy with printing, by rperry on Jun 17, 2011 1:38:21 GMT 1, Solution is simple: Don't buy prints that you think are Crap, if those prints sit around and don't get sold, then the artists/galleries will reconsider their sales strategies. I'd say you are just buying the sig, but in many cases you are not even getting that.
Increase the prices for good works as well. Why does anyone want to let a good percentage of works end up on ebay for triple that afternoon or the next few weeks? Again not a great pricing strategy. IMO anyway. Pay more and buy less...
