I just released my first print via Paper Monster, by chief on Jul 19, 2011 7:44:27 GMT 1, Ahh, you went over that lister. really like the print. Reminds me of auerbach and arcangel. Anywhere we could see more work?
Hey thanks. Someone posted the Shooting Gallery link below. That gives a really good assessment of whats in the show. I have other works that haven't been posted up on my site yet but will be coming in a few weeks. I'm flying back to SF to get proper HD footage of the huge installation piece in action. Honestly, building it almost killed me and really pissed off my two friends whom were helping me. We got there with 6 days to build, spent everyday working, then the last 4 days I realized we'd be cutting it close so I stayed up 96 hours straight to get it done. We were still finishing 1 hour after the show opened, sort of embarrassing, but I learned a lot of important lessons.
The piece is basically a massive 16 foot tall version of one of my "Shadow Series" paintings. Each of the top 7 bars are linked to the 7 bottom bars, the 8 offset bars in the background are static. I got the idea to first build the piece from floor to ceiling in the gallery, then I thought making it move like a wave would be impressive. I wanted the wall to "breathe". From there the idea to make the piece actually respond to where the viewer was standing in front of it was born.
If you stand in front of the sculpture, the bar directly in front of you will move out to it's furthest position, the neighboring bars will follow suit only not as far so that it comes off like a gradient of sorts (similar to the painting). Walk towards it and the bars pull back in. Walk away and they push back out. There are minor tweaks I have to work on but I think it was well worth the work. This is a very rough video, there will be another, more produced video, to follow:
